My old system just wasn't cutting it anymore, so I upgraded. AM4 is a solid upgrade path since it will be supported until 2020. Ryzen has a great price to performance ratio, and at the price, Intel can't compete. The Ryzen 7 1700 is the cheapest Ryzen 7 and like most AMD chips can be overclocked. X370 was the high end AM4 board for 1st gen, but with a bios update can run 2nd gen and even 3rd gen. The Cooler is a good cheap liquid cooler that I can overclock with. 16GB of DDR4 is the sweet spot for just about anything. I wasn't able to get 3000mhz on the memory so 2800mhz will do fine. The Inland SSD is cheap but it works. Eventually I will get a 240GB NVME drive and I will migrate the OS to that drive. Toshiba makes decent drives for super cheap, technically this is a "Laptop drive" but it works. I will eventually get a 2TB Drive. The GTX 980 is the aging beast. I can run all the games I want at 1080p Ultra 60+ FPS, and 1440p High/Medium 60+ FPS. But the 4GBs of VRAM can be used up really fast in games like FFXV. Cougar made a great $25 case. EVGA makes some of the best PSUs, so a 650w 80+ Gold unit is perfect for future upgrades.
