Description

Decided to build a PC for my daughter because I was undecided about getting her a new one. She needed one for school work and moderate gaming. I went online a looked at prices and figured I would be better off building one. So here we are! I know is not all that impressive but I had a lot of fun building it. I hadn't built one since 2012. That's when I built my first. Which I still have! The best thing I like about this build is the fact that I can keep upgrading with ease. I wanted to get descent components while trying to save some money at the same time. Unfortunately I didn't have a bigger budget for it.

Overall this was a great experience! I want to get better at building! Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated!

Part Reviews

CPU

Intel i5-9600k- Chose this CPU because the vast majority of i5 PC's being sold have 9400F and the fact that it doesn't have integrated graphics irks me. I also would like to learn how to OC in the future and I know that K series CPU's are easier to OC.

CPU Cooler

Cooler Master Hyper T2- wanted a water cool but got scared to go for it! lol So I got this instead. Not trying to Overclock for now. Fits well inside this case. Make sure you mount outside the case before you screw your motherboard in. My fingers barely fit and had the hardest time ever making that last one clamp go in.

Motherboard

ASRock Z390 Pro 4- the best my money could afford. Disappointing that it does not have wifi. I completely overlooked that part before I purchased. Luckily had an old wireless PCI-e adapter from an old PC. But overall, I'm happy with it. Looks solid! Capacitors look sharp! Has 2 M2 slots for SSD and 1 M2 Key E slot for wifi.

Storage

Samsung 970 Evo Plus- saw a review on youtube about it and decided to go for it. Plus it wasn't too expensive. Blazing fast! No complaints here at all! Windows boots in 7 seconds!

Video Card

Gigabyte GTX 1660- decided on this one because I wanted something a bit better than what I already had, which is GTX 1060. Performance is great! I'm a happy camper!

Case

Phantex P300 Eclipse case- this case looks amazing. Love the white and tempered glass, cable management and space! There's plenty of it to keep adding more stuff!

Power Supply

Corsair 550W PSU- something tells me I should've gone for the 650W but at the same time I figured this would be enough. Love the fact that it comes with plug cables, which means you only use the cables that you need and you can put away the ones you don't. Giving you a better opportunity for cable management.

Wireless Network Adapter

Roswell RNX PCI-e Wifi adapter- Didn't buy this! Just found one on the parts list that looks like the one I replaced from a old computer I had. Can't review it! :(

Custom

Asus 1080p Monitor- looks great but sad is not 1440p! :( Image looks crisp! Built in speakers but very low volume. Even at max volume! Definitely need speakers!

Custom

Logitect C920S Pro Webcam- great picture quality especially during the day. 1080p resolution and built-in microphone. Definitely a bang for your buck!

Custom

OMOton wireless Keyboard and mouse- cheap and looks great! Helped me with the all white look I was going for. Feels sturdy. Good product for the price!

Custom

ARTSHOW Headset with mic- there was no need for this but she insisted on having one :{ Low volume feels delicate. Mic's descent!

Custom

Computer Stand- wanted to keep it off the ground to prevent dust. Unfortunately there isn't white. Easy to assemble. My daughter changes her room around a lot so now this will make it easier to move around. Can't beat the price.

Hey, nice build. I'm fond of that little Hyper T2 cooler with its continuous pipe looping over the top, so much that I grabbed a few extra with refurb discount. It's not hard to secure a 2nd fan with some wire if you want to push your CPU a bit more. (They don't seem to sell those clip-on fans.)

Yeah my T2 has been going strong for three years Damn nice cooler for the price, easier to install than the 212 as well.

Thanks!👍 what's the highest you've been able to push your CPU with this cooler? What are temperatures like. Do you use the thermal paste it comes with?

I have no overclock on mine yet but I went ahead with 2 fans in preparation. I left the paste packet in the box because I had something else already handy, it was either Arctic MX-4 or Noctua NH-1. Will report back when I have my results.

Hi mate, have been running mine at 4.6 comfortably since the build, admittedly I do have AIO. Temp never above 60C.

The I5 k and F both perform the same, Integrated graphics are only, mostly used for pcs or laptops with out a gpu.

Are you referring to the 9600kf, because that actually costs more than the regular 9600k. If you are are talking about the 9400f, you are just wrong. The 9400f is not the same performance as the 9600k at all.

Not really the K variant boosts much high and has a higher base clock. it makes a noticeable difference in games with a higher end graphics card, unsure of the difference with a 1660.

Yes, with your current CPU, you do. Integrated graphics in a processor is essentially another mini graphics card. So right now you basically have two graphic cards in your system, one that comes with the CPU and one that you bought. And if you look around in BIOS you’ll probably find something that allows you to switch which graphics unit should be used to drive the displays.

Quick question my friend.... what's the difference in connecting my GPU into the 2nd PCI-e slot rather than the first? Is there any difference at all?

I don't think that will work. For single GPU, it should typically be in the first slot closest to the CPU. You'll have to read your motherboard's manual for this type of thing.

good build! she might need a peripherals upgrade tho

Thanks!👍 Before I do that. I think I'm gonna play around with the monitor for a little bit. I think there might be volume buttons that I just overlooked because they're hidden at the bottom of the screen. I guess I'm not used to controlling volume on monitors. Right now she's using a bluetooth speaker wired to the audio jack.

A feature? What do you mean? I'm new to the website. Maybe I'm not up to date with the lingo! Lol

It took me a while to figure this out, but there's a Featured Build on the front page of the site. It's sort of like a blue ribbon at the county fair. I haven't been able to find a roster of past winners though.

Thanks for helping me figure out the "feature" thing! 👍He was definitely clowning my build 🤣🤣🤣 Hey it's all good bro! I'm no pro, that's for sure! But at least I had fun building it! And I will continue to learn and do some upgrades. That's what is all about for me.

Haha that's okay, it means it'll appear on the featured submissions page.

Nice clean build, I’d be sooo tempted to trade gpu’s, put the 1660 in my rig instead of 1060 >=]

Nice job! My first thought was that it had an R2D2 vibe.

what CPU temps do you get, intrested in the cooler

The only game I've played on it is Crysis 2. I get 52C on Ultra settings over 2.5 hours at 50FPS. My daughter rarely plays any games on it. More than enough for her use.

Nice build! Quick question, were you able to reach the 3200mhz speed on your ram in bios? I bought the same board for my brother and when I enabled the xmp profile to hit 3200mhz on my corsair ram the pc became unstable and would crash.. Thanks in advance! : )
