Description
This is the first Windows PC I have built or owned in over 15 years (I converted to Mac years ago) but wanted to play SC2 with all the effects cranked up at decent resolution and FPS. This rig more than covers that. It’s also pretty good at Apex Legends at high settings at 4K.
Just want to say quickly how advanced the tech is these days compared to 15-20 years ago. Building and over-clocking a good gaming rig in the early days of Intel Pentium was not very fun. Usually it took many reconfigurations to get the first boot up, and components were not nearly as stable.
Anyway, this build worked on first boot, like a charm.
I really like the aesthetics of the pieces, in addition to their performance. RGB might seem a little silly, but I like it.
Presently I display this on my Panasonic 4K home TV and looks great, but interested in getting an Acer Predator.
Part Reviews
CPU
Have been able to OC to 5.1 GHz using the Gigabyte software that came with my mobo. Very stable and runs cool. Adds a lot to the FPS of SC2.
CPU Cooler
Works great, and very quiet. The RGB software is not so intuitive but it works. The pump is so silent I can’t hardly tell it’s running.
Motherboard
Great mobo. Good layout and construction. I just wish the manuals were clear on some of the accessories.
Memory
Overclocked nicely and nice lights!
The iCue software is probably the best RGB software available
Storage
These NVMe drives are amazing. I’ve never had games (or Windows) boot up so fast.
Video Card
This was a good price compromise. I wanted a little future-proofing and high-end performance without going nuts. Sometimes I wish I went 2080 but then I look at the price difference and glad I made this purchase. Comes pre-overclocked.
Case
Excellent case... very happy with the aesthetics and modularity. Couple complaints: side panel screws feel a bit cheap, and top mesh a bit odd with the glued-on magnets. Otherwise, best case I’ve ever owned. Smoked glass is nice on moderating the RGB.
Power Supply
Modularity is awesome. Build quality is really impressive. Comes with soft cases for the PSU and cables, of which there are many.
Operating System
First decent release since I used Windows XP back in the day.
Keyboard
Nice mechanical feel, but could do without some of the extra keys, and miss having backlighted keys. Might change later for Redragon but I wanted a good mechanical wireless keyboard.
Mouse
Works as advertised. Might get the charging mouse pad soon too.
