Description

This is my first build and I'm coming from a mac (yea...). I have been studying up on parts for about a year, so i was pretty confident in the Micro Center when I went to go buy the parts. I was originally just going to go to get a 4590, monitor, HD, and possibly Windows. With the motherboard CPU combos the 4690k wasn't a lot more than the 4590 an H97/B85 motherboard.

CPU: Got a good deal on it, haven't OCed it yet because I am still on the stock cooler. I haven't had it be the bottleneck yet, so I don't think I will be OCing it any time soon, might stick a better cooler on it just for stability sooner than that though.

Motherboard: Works just fine, haven't ran into any problems with it yet. It was pretty easy to find where to plug everything in, also was blue and black, which is my color scheme.

Memory: Good, Blue RAM.

SSD: Quick, can get my OS loaded in under 10 secs. Putting some of my favorite games that would benefit from it on here also.

HDD: I'm putting some of my less favorite Games, Media, etc.

Video Card: I haven't found anything that doesn't run at 60 FPS on highest settings, also came with Rainbow 6 Siege.

Case: Great case, the Micro Center was out of the blue/black ones, so I got this one and might paint the blue parts, or replace them with replacement blue parts. Looks great with very little cable management.

PSU: Got a great deal on it, will probably use it for about 10 years with the amount of wattage on it.

OS: Seems good so far; best OS for gaming.

Monitor: Good cheap monitor. It does shake a lot if the table moves or I touch it, it's not too noticeable though.

Mouse: Got this mouse off Best Buy when they had it 50% off a few days last week. Best mouse I have ever owned!

Part Reviews

CPU

Works Great! Good CPU, I don't think it is worth the money to go skylake with the deal I got on this one.

Motherboard

Good Motherboard, easy to locate all of the ports; good locations for all the ports

Memory

Both work as expected. Good Blue RAM

Storage

Really fast, boots up system in under 10 secs, also has enough storage for games that would benefit from one.

Storage

Got is at a great price, but other than that it's just a good 1TB HDD.

Video Card

Great graphics, the 970 runs everything I throw at it. It will sometimes make a audible whistle sound when the fan first turns on, not a big enough issue to return though.

Case

Great case, going to try to paint the blue parts blue; I got it because the Micro Center was out of the Blue/Black ones. Has a great amount of space in the side for cable management.

Power Supply

Wouldn't have gotten it if I hadn't have gotten a fantastic deal on it. Give me a lot of room for future expansion though.

Operating System

Best OS for Gaming, and IMO a good well thought out OS.

Monitor

I already knew about the shaky stand and got it anyway. The stand is shaky, but it't not noticeable or distracting unless you are looking for it.

Mouse

Best mouse I have ever owned.

It's the only non-apple keyboard I had! A new one is definitely on the list, but it works fine for now. lol

Just saying, but that amount of money could have been spent for a more powerful system.

Yea, I know I could get more for the money, but I was wanting to bring it all home from the Microcenter. I also wanted a big SSD, which took a lot. I could've put a 390 in for cheaper, but I wanted the 970 because it came with a free Rainbow six siege and nvidia pays gaming companies to optimize better for them so performance wise I think those 2 would be similar, and since I was getting rainbow six siege anyway they were price similar too.

I hope you have great years of gaming with it. I hope to build my first soon too but I have to come up with the funds.

I have that same monitor and I have the same problem. It doesn't really sit right in the stand and isn't usually straight. I'm hoping to get a special vesa mount for it so I can put it on a different stand to reduce its wobble.

Yea I definitely does wobble, but it doesn't bother me enough to even think about buying anything extra to fix it, I just included it because I feel like some people would be bothered by that.

I think that the PSU is a little bit overkill, but at least you have more then enough room to overclock your cpu and gpu. Have you had any cooling issues?

Well I only got the PSU for the future, I got it for $65, which was an insane deal for that PSU with gold efficiency and a 10 year warranty. I also think I'll get another 970 when 1 doesn't cut it anymore. I haven't tried OCing anything yet, I might try the GPU tonight when I get home, but I still have the temporary stock cooler for the CPU so I will be a while on it. General cooling has been great though, have never heard my GPU because when I'm playing anything that would turn the fans on I have earbuds in, the stock CPU cooler is pretty loud though.

The AOC monitor, could you tell me if it can mount vertical? Thank you.
