Apologies when this was first posted I got an error both times I posted it so assumed it hadn't gone up! Apparently it had double posted, my bad!

This was a first build that actually went amazingly smoothly. From having read this community and around the web I was expecting parts to fail on me or something to go horrifically horrifically wrong. Much to my delight, however, it didn't.

The build is mainly for gaming for the Summer at 1440p and I have to say, with the GTX 780, it couldn't be better, Crysis 3 at native resolution and ultra? All smooth 99% of the time. The ACX Cooler keeps it down to 65C and with everything else going on, I can't even hear it. The 3770k is running at 4.1GHz at the moment and probably won't go any higher due to temps. It can run up to 75C as 100% load in not much time, so I'm happily letting it sit here, no more performance is really actually needed after all!

I need to praise the 600t first of all, it's amazing to build in, anyone could do it, and it could still be neat and tidy. The only problem is the noise, but a bit of fan tweaking and boom you have yourself an amazing build, that only sounds like half a jet taking off instead of five.

Although I am posting this now the build was started a month ago with the GPU going in two weeks later, thus the lack of use of Haswell. It's primarily a gaming machine, yes, but the i7 was chosen because I'm going on to work in electronics engineering and had no idea what sort of requirements software in the field may have, so really covered my bases, there was no budget issue, so why not?

On the note of choices people here may question, yes the PSU is above and beyond for what it currently supports, but years to come and it may find itself supporting a second 780 and any other crap I can find and fit into the case, which with my curiosity, may be an awful lot.

Yes, That's a WiFi Adapter on the top. No, I can't get an Ethernet cable to my tower. And No, my internet isn't good enough for it to be worthwhile trying! :P

The monitor is amazing. 1440p is a pretty great resolution, not too much, but enough to make a noticeable difference when you have two windows side by side. The colours on this are also amazing, and you really notice a difference compared to other displays around the place. I came from an iMac, and noticed better quality and also for any normal gamer all of this talk of response times, I haven't had any trouble playing CS:Go a lot so don't let it worry you. If you've got the money, I'd recommend it.

Now for first build noob issues. I had a couple. One of which is very very stupid. On the back of the Sabertooth Motherboard was a sticker, and this sticker covered the Ethernet and two USB ports basically reminding you that it was from Intel. I saw this sticker and thought nothing of it, proceeding to install the motherboard into the case. Look at back of motherboard, there's the sticker...behind the backplate... needing motherboard removal to take it off, this was literally the most time consuming part of the build! And that brings me neatly to the second issue I had. My screwdriver is not magnetic. The Sabertooth has thermal armour. In order to install the standoff screws you need to guide them down the hole in the thermal armour, without that magnetic screwdriver, getting them down the holes and them ending up straight ended up being a massive game of luck, but this isn't a dig at the motherboard, which I love the look and capabilities of!

I also know some people will be questioning how much I paid for all this lot. In total with all the fans and everything we're probably looking at £2550. (Prices shown above aren't what or where I paid for anything!) Now I know I could have shaved money off here and there and got better performance, someone will suggest LGA2011 I'm sure, but the point is I've got a lovely build here with high quality components that I love, and it's encouraged me to build many more computers as the years go on!

And Finally, I'd like to thank the community of r/buildapc. There's so many helpful posts flying around and I got a bit of help myself from people, it's good to have somewhere you know you can come to if **** just doesn't work.

To all newcomers out there like me: If you're considering building, go for it. With the right parts, it's a really rewarding experience.

Why so many downvotes? EDIT: was -6 now it is being upvoted

Echocookie 15 points 37 months ago

Now, 15 months later, on the top 5 list of this website. I think people were trying too hard to get it out of the downvoted section.

talby 10 Builds 7 points 53 months ago

I think I saw 2 of them, they both had the same amount of downvotes... well I will do my part +1 I think it looks great

Hakumisoso 2 Builds 4 points 53 months ago

i saw -6 a while ago.

BarracksBoy submitter 1 Build 5 points 53 months ago

Thanks guys. I got errors both times I posted it so it reposted and then didn't have my description on it! Hopefully fixed now :)

SparkyOnPC 3 points 48 months ago

Do you know the name for the desk?

Adam_khalfi 2 points 36 months ago

Hello did you have any problems with the tempretures on your room? Did it get hot? Or considerably warmer from the water cooler

RyneSmith 7 Builds 14 points 53 months ago

It was being downvoted cuz when he posted it earlier non of the pictures were showing up

jonsy777 7 points 49 months ago

maybe this is just me but im not a fan of the noctua fans on top (too much brown) There's gotta be a fan that matches nicer? i dont hate anything about the build, i just dont like the noctua brown...... its just..... bleh.... but other than that i love it!

lemonademolotovz 4 points 41 months ago

they are really good fans but make sure to put them out of sight

Racerjj45 2 points 37 months ago

Just looked around, (Sorry for being late! D:) Noctua released new fans that has a black body and brown corners... that can be taken off for a full black fan! sadly, the fan costs tons of money and is pretty loud.

josh777mc_ 4 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

corsair sp120's are black and have bands that you can change the colour if you want! there are two versions of the fans also, performance and silent editions!

RealHippie44 1 point 15 months ago

Can just remove and repaint the fans as well. But other than the fans it looks wicked. Solid build.

Norm101 3 Builds 5 points 53 months ago

I think this build was double posted. So one was fine, and this one got downvoted. Then the other was removed. Nice build.

awilzman 3 Builds 4 points 53 months ago

No reason why this should get downvoted, great build here

ChromeFox 4 points 53 months ago

very nice build and looks extremely clean. specially the desk(mines always messy)

hunter32tz 1 Build 3 points 53 months ago

Dafuq why is this being trolled...I did my part too, +1. Nothing wrong with this, awesome build in my opinion

construction 3 Builds 3 points 53 months ago

Really nice build. :) Looks brilliant. I always think people spend to much money on gaming though.

extramayo 2 Builds 3 points 52 months ago

I'm building with the same case & h100i , what direction have you got those top fans going?

BarracksBoy submitter 1 Build 2 points 52 months ago

They're being used as intakes, brings nice cool air through the radiator to keep the CPU cool. The 780 with the ACX blows some of its hot air back into the case so using them as outputs would see increased CPU Temps although I haven't tested that.

TheCanadianGamer16 1 Build 1 point 48 months ago

the 780 blowing into the case won't effect temps, my 7970 maxed out at 73C doesn't even bring up my idle temps for my 3570K @4.4Ghz with the H100 in pull out the roof of my Shinobi XL, maybe with a second 780 you might see a diference.

bsg2113 3 points 52 months ago

How do you like the Bitfenix 200mm fan? also, with the Noctua fans, do you still have enough room to close the mesh on top?

TwoDegreez 3 points 52 months ago

nice monitor bro. do you like it? pros and cons? im in the market for 4 monitors. trying to narrow down my search

dschutt84 3 Builds 3 points 51 months ago

How are those Bitfenix 200mm fans? I have the same case as you but the stock fans don't seem to be moving much if any air? Just wondering how they are working out for you!

jamiesinn 3 points 50 months ago

Dat amazing cable management :O

Yevgeniy_Onegin 1 Build 3 points 48 months ago

Great build. It's almost identical to my build. I live in UK too =) +1

TheGamingRepublic 3 points 43 months ago

how do i +1

duck1471 1 Build 2 points 53 months ago

That is a great looking build. The case looks great: I might use it in the future. :D

canders 7 Builds 2 points 53 months ago

Super clean. Nice.

Bartmanicus 1 Build 2 points 53 months ago

Kinda like my build, but I don't have a 780 =p, +1

mx3552 2 points 52 months ago

amazing build! Looks like you will be able to game at Ultra for a while ;)

Question: wich of your fans are intake / exhaust? I plan on doing a build with the same CPU cooler, GPU, but a 500r case, but im still not sure about the airflow.

Are you doing Front fan intake, Side pannel fan intake, h100i fans intake and rear fan exhaust or something like that?

BarracksBoy submitter 1 Build 3 points 52 months ago

Hello there,

Front is intake Rear is Exhaust Both H100i fans are also intake. No side fan currently fitted but intake would be used if there was.

Hope this helps.

CPU Temperature Under Load 72.0° C @ 4.1 GHz with an H100i?

toastertartz 2 points 35 months ago

That single gpu looks kinda lonely, you should get him a ladyfriend :o

awilzman 3 Builds 1 point 53 months ago

Maybe put the fans on the inside?

Norm101 3 Builds 6 points 53 months ago

The fans are inside, but he just hasn't put back the top mesh panel yet.

awilzman 3 Builds 4 points 53 months ago

I thought that's what it was but I didn't see a picture with the mesh on :P sorry

GRX01 1 point 52 months ago

Why the core i7? For pretty much all games out there, a great core i5 would have been more than sufficient

Ninjadudewhat 2 Builds 1 point 40 months ago

did you not read the description? I suggest you do

mrten 1 point 51 months ago

Are all those Noctua Fans really necessary after getting the H100i?

TheCanadianGamer16 1 Build 6 points 48 months ago

i would say they are, the stock fans are kinda loud, the noctua's are damn near silent even at max

TrekonBT 1 point 51 months ago

I want to do your build. I'm in love. So beautiful. very neat and tidy too! 780, nff12, that monitor, mmmm, perfect. So many kudos.

mrten 1 point 51 months ago

Why did you buy the Bitfenix LED's when the case already comes with "twin 200mm cooling fans with white LEDs for excellent cooling"? Are the fans given given horrible? too loud?

sogoodbybob 1 point 49 months ago

It looks a little bit like Kyle's Build from Newegg. Nice clean and good choice for the components if you have money one 780Ti will fit awesomly for upgrade..

MrBeastshaw 15 Builds 1 point 49 months ago

Lol used to use the exact same mouse and keyboard back in the day. That light mouse spoiled me big time. I hate how heavy all other gaming mice feel nowadays.

chantodo 1 point 48 months ago

very nice build there, did you have any problems trying to fit the radiator up top there? I tried fitting one in (same case, same rad) but it crimps the power cord a ton for me.

Toxicoz 1 point 48 months ago

Why windows 8?

Yevgeniy_Onegin 1 Build 4 points 48 months ago

On Win 8 you get 30-40% FPS increase over Win 7 in Battlefield 4

bugattikid2012 -2 points 46 months ago

Not true. You get a 3-6% increase and that depends on your card, Nvidia based or AMD based. The reason most people get that much of an improvement is because BF4 has issues with Core Parking, and they removed it mostly in 8.

ToasterNukeTV 2 points 45 months ago

Does it really matter? He can choose Windows 8 if he wants.

Toxicoz 0 points 45 months ago

I was just asking.... I didn't say he couldn't have it.

xdownfall 1 point 48 months ago

So what kind of FPS do you get at 1440p with that GTX780? I'm wondering cause I have an almost identical setup but at 1080p :c

Specifically looking for BF4, CS:GO, LoL.. but any help/knowledge is appreciated!

rydog 1 point 47 months ago

I love the build! But, I definitely wouldn't have gone with a USB Wireless Network Adapter, it decreases performance (If you use wireless). Also it makes me irritated that you have a freaking amazing PC, BUT you have terrible peripherals! Please research a new keyboard and mouse...

Ninjadudewhat 2 Builds 1 point 40 months ago

again, read the description. why do so many people not? if it were really long, i would understand, but.... anyway, he said he can't get Ethernet to his PC. also it wouldn't necessarily make that much of a difference, in fact it would make none at all if he were playing singleplayer.

Markane14 1 point 47 months ago

Your build looks awesome man. You've inspired me to create my own. Thanks bud!

sethi 1 point 47 months ago

great build, beautiful cable managment, love the case. Speaking of which, how do you like it? I'm probably going to buy it very soon.

JCanadian 1 point 47 months ago

That is one sexy build...

Kriston_S@101 1 point 47 months ago

Nice build. Love how clean your area is. Makes one appreciate the machine more

Mr_Tomnus 1 Build 1 point 46 months ago

Finally there is someone who knows how to use a camera properly! There are so many builds on here that have shaky shots of their PC and that aren't in proper lighting, so it's great to see some clear pictures for a change! It's a really nice build, I hope you like it :)

Zaniest 1 point 46 months ago

What's the name of the desk you use?

Simon_Science 1 point 46 months ago

Really liking this build! In starting my first one soon. Can't wait. Live looking up the parts and updating my spec list ready for when it goes ahead.

osiitis9 1 point 46 months ago

It's beautiful

gioforever 1 point 45 months ago

Beautiful, Where did you install 40mm fan?

187flatliner 1 Build 1 point 38 months ago

he installed it into the mobo in the upper left hand corner.....you cant see it in his pics.

gowtham.n.mail 1 point 44 months ago

How come Crysis 3 runs at 1440p with max settings with just one 780 graphics card?

Herr_Doktor_Pants 1 point 44 months ago

Nice set up! How does that GPU handle 1440p gaming? I was looking at same monitor and gpu but have heard mixed info. Danke! +1 ps how do i vote?

Jhact007 1 Build 2 points 44 months ago

Directly to the left of the title there are 2 arrows, one pointing up and the other down. Up is good, down is bad ;)

Acidfiend 1 point 43 months ago

Hey mate, just wondering if you had to cut out the top mesh for the H100i or did you just attach the fans and radiator to each side?

debjyotialways 1 point 43 months ago

Did you face a problem with the H100i detection in Corsair Link?

adampski 1 Build 1 point 42 months ago

Shame you skimped on keyboard and mouse.

BradRadical 1 point 42 months ago

Nice clean build mate, well done :)

Jhact007 1 Build 1 point 42 months ago

Awesome build! (As if the score didn't tell you that already!) ;)

P.S. What's the desk?

antoniojack 1 point 41 months ago

Good one

JustAnotherGamer 1 point 41 months ago

A build like this will cost around $3000 USD... dammit inflation.

Ninjadudewhat 2 Builds 1 point 40 months ago

actually, quite a lot more, depending on a few things. but the exact price in dollars compared to pounds is about $4200. soo....

JustAnotherGamer 1 point 41 months ago

Great build but I have 2 questions. How well does that 780 perform in 1440p? Also, what is that desk?

lightdark64 1 point 40 months ago

I like the last picture. +1

Ninjadudewhat 2 Builds 1 point 40 months ago

Hey, this is a truly amazing build, but I thought since it's about a year & a half old & also I was bored I would make a part list kinda based on this, so I would love to hear anyone's opinions on it. :-) http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/Ninjadudewhat/saved/KMRgXL

Ninjadudewhat 2 Builds 1 point 40 months ago

Lol just realized for the price of that GPU (or even less) you could get either a 780 6gb or a 780ti now. Then again, 880 comes out soon. Complexity, wonderful complexity.

Ninjadudewhat 2 Builds 2 points 37 months ago

Correction: 980.

PRoPCBUildz001 1 point 38 months ago

Nice build, +1

revolverlover 2 Builds 1 point 37 months ago

nice build, good cable management, and really good job matching everything +1

ImYourChrist 1 point 37 months ago

I like how you've hidden the noctuas and put the bitfenix fans on showcase. They're indeed beautiful. Do they give enough airflow? What about their noise when the pc is under heavy load? Could you tell me about the PSU? I'm thinking on getting one but I've read some reviews about them having a good chance to "whine". Experienced anything such? What games do you play?

M3RICA_ 1 point 35 months ago

Builds like these are making me want to steal my Mother's Credit card and go build a damn PC! Thanks so much for the build. I love it. Only thing I would change is upgrading to a 4790k and a GTX 970/980, as well as getting braided PSU cables and cable combs to make it look that little bit more polished. +1.

Sneakywaffles 1 point 34 months ago

I dont get it, 860 psu seems way to much, is it not? even if you do upgrade in the futurre 860 would fri it no?

rhali8 2 Builds 1 point 32 months ago

Noctuas? Why not use Corsair performance fans? I find Noctua fans look a bit daggy, however everyone has an opinion. Overall a great build that I would rate 11/10!

darkkingbowser 1 Build 1 point 31 months ago

I finished my computer based on your design. Check it out: https://pcpartpicker.com/b/Wmhqqs Thanks for the information.

alexkizirian 1 point 29 months ago

This desktop build looks simply amazing. The white and black design looks great! This has inspired me to build myself a gaming rig rather than buy a pre-built one. This is my first time building a rig so if it isn't too much trouble, id love to hear your oppinion. My build seems pretty similar : https://pcpartpicker.com/user/alexkizirian/saved/#view=BYLxFT

Thank you so much and amazing build! Hopefully mine ends up working similar to yours!

DTI466 1 Build 1 point 28 months ago

Why are there so many people asking what kind of desk you have. Especially since you dropped 3-4grand on a built pc. XD

Gr3yKnight 2 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

I think it's a great build..though I would have gone with the ti.

Koshee 1 point 24 months ago

I am upvote number 800. Yea me.

wattdogg87 1 point 24 months ago

What's with the random 40mm fan in the parts list...?

SpazSpy 1 point 24 months ago

Another ex-iMac user :D Well, I'm liking the look of this one, thanks for making and giving tips :D Edit: When you joke about it 'only sounding like half a jet taking off', how loud is it? I don't mind the whirring, unless it's plain out annoying.

Red_Eagle 1 point 22 months ago

Man it must be really hard to find a Micrsofot LifeCam anywhere, extremely rare.

+1 for new PCP meme

Crazy-t 1 point 21 months ago

Was the water cooling easy? And do u need to charge the water often?

findingteem0 1 point 19 months ago

i like ur gaming gear

EnsisTheSlayer 1 point 18 months ago

I know this is an old build, but I was checking out builds with those speakers. Where do you have the subwoofer? Do you like the 2.1 setup?

ctf05 1 point 12 months ago

is the cpu cooler loud?

Turtleyfirst 1 point 5 months ago

The noctua fans make me want to hurl, but otherwise a nice build. Wish they sold black ones for the same price

Questors 0 points 39 months ago

That is a great build! It looks good inside and out. I like the usage of LEDs. Just enough to look great, but not so many it's like a sunny glare on a clean windshield. If I had to make one suggestion (but remember, everyone has their opinion), I probably would have opted for two of the black and grey Noctua fans over the original color. Give yourself a pat on the back! Nice work!+1

Sausage_Beacon -2 points 39 months ago

Awesome rig,but when I see Microsoft mouse and keyboard I wanna throw up :( But still, worth of upvote :D

Chuk -5 points 49 months ago

You could have saved a bit of dough and bought a Korean monitor from dreamseller on e-bay. Have a look @ razetheworld's review of all of the choices. For the price of the Asus you bought you could have two Korean ones or a better CPU. To make your decision look even sillier: you can OC the Korean panels up to 120Hz+. Anyway: enjoy gaming at a needlessly high resolution. :)
