Mini ITX gaming build for 1440p. Boots in about 4 seconds. Games look amazing so far at 1440p at Ultra settings. Everything is running at stock speeds for now.

Next Step - get a desk for this thing. :-p

"Next Step - get a desk for this thing. " It's all about priorities. Why buy a desk when you can buy more games to run on it? Cinder blocks + plywood = desk.

Does you graphic card have any coil wind, nice build

ironhead34 submitter 2 Builds 4 points 37 months ago

No coil while. It has been rather quiet even under load. Very happy with it.

afaik, the only 970/980 which experience a fair amount of C.W are the EVGA versions, but that just my two cents. As far as the build goes, HOLY SHET I AM JELLY, I'D KILL FOR THAT PC +1. I really like smaller Pc's like this, i mean, having a crossfire setup with 2x R9 295X2 is fun and all, but the extra work needed to do something closer to my price point and likes is worth it more for me. Excellent build :)

Almost all GTX 970 models are experiencing coil whine, there was a thread about this with official responses from reputable companies like NVIDIA, EVGA, ASUS and MSI about the coil whine.

It just happens to be the hottest selling card in a long time. We're just hearing everyone's experiences both good and bad in a huge burst. I've heard it all at this point. I'm here with a perfect EVGA 970, if this thread gets enough eyes on it someone will say they RMA'd their's. The response has crazy variance, I'm starting to think some people are looking for whine by going into their old benchmarks and hearing their card hiss when it's running at +300 fps and thinking they have a problem.

jimmystempura 2 Builds 1 point 37 months ago

Good or bad, the topic is getting to the manufacturers. There must be a reason why the cards are experiencing such high traffics of coil whine. I mostly recommend gamers to cap their frames to at least 100-120 FPS but most cards still produces the electrical noise.

How is that mobo? I've read mixed reviews on it and am nearing my mobo purchase next week.

ironhead34 submitter 2 Builds 2 points 37 months ago

I have used it twice - first in a build for my wife and now in this build. As far as the board itself I have been very happy with it. I have not tried overclocking either system yet but I read in reviews that it shouldn't have any issues.

My only words of caution: 1) Just be aware that it only has two fan headers (CPU and Case Fan)

2) The placement of the SATA ports are a little odd if you are really into super tidy cable management.

3) The download speeds through Gigabyte's auto update tool are insanely slow. As in downloading a 200MB file at 50kbs slow. So that was a little frustrating.

Omega_Virus 1 point 37 months ago

I appreciate the quick response. You have swayed me on the subject and I will pick it up next week. I'm not looking for an insane overclock, just a good 4.4 on my 4690k so that shouldn't be an issue. Those speeds are terrible ha, I shall just have to update manually to avoid that. I really liked the look of the board and have never really had problems with gigabyte products. Now I just need a few days off to play the 970 roulette wheel so I can grab a decent GPU.

You guys are lucky my internet peaks at 85Kbs per second.

Omega_Virus 1 point 37 months ago

Good god I am getting ptsd flashbacks from aol and netzero.

ya mines .7mb, and do you mean Mb or MB, cause theres a difference megabit vs megabyte.

danksause 1 Build 1 point 31 months ago

So did you just get 3-pin to molex connectors for your extra case fans?

DeltasEcho 1 point 37 months ago

Nice build! I do have a question tho, why buy now instead of waiting for black friday. I am currently building my first build, and have already bought some good parts. IDK if I should buy a good combo that shaves 30 bucks off of my CPU/Mobo or wait :/ people say I should just get now...

ironhead34 submitter 2 Builds 2 points 37 months ago

I bought parts as they went on sale over about 2 months. I could have probably saved more if I waited, especially on the monitor. But I wanted to have the system ready for Dragon Age Inquisition which comes out on November 18th. So impatience mostly. I also wasn't sure that if I waited until Black Friday/Cyber Monday there was no guarantee that the parts I wanted would have gone on sale.

DeltasEcho 1 point 37 months ago

Yeah. I'm a little less than the average consumer, so I don't think my area of parts is gonna be on sale if you know what I mean. The people I've talked to say expensive stuff is like 30 bucks off, but that still means its out of reach for 75% of most consumers.

xdenttim 1 Build 1 point 37 months ago

i like how the video card can pull air form the outside nice mate that thing must stay cool

mariothetec 1 point 37 months ago

Are you planning to add a water cooled CPU for over clocking

ironhead34 submitter 2 Builds 1 point 37 months ago

At this time no. But I was one click of a button away from ordering the H100i multiple times. Ultimately, I just felt like water cooling would be overkill for the CPU performance I would need and could put the $60-70 dollars saved by getting the 212 EVO somewhere else. The 212 EVO should be good enough when I get around to putting a moderate overclock on it.

Microshrimp 1 Build 1 point 37 months ago

Excellent build!

Kringler 1 point 36 months ago

can you make a list of fps you got in common/newer games on ultra? I'm getting a 970 in my next build and i know its overkill for 1080 but all the benchmarks online show it performing at 60fps 1080p on demanding games and like 40 at 1440p. Thanks

wetsoup 1 point 34 months ago

woahh only a 550 watt PSU? does it actually not require more than that? even at load?

e949 1 point 31 months ago

Did you have any issue fitting the Gigabyte G1 GTX 970 in the Prodigy with that 230mm front fan?

I happen to have the same case and front fan, and was looking into purchasing the same GPU-- but after measuring it, I was questioning whether or not it would fit...
