This was my first build built back in Feb '16. I don't really regret going AMD during the FX era as I didn't really know what I was doing. I let someone else pick the parts. I admit a Haswell CPU would have been way better bang for buck paired with my GTX 970 (that I think I overpaid for).

I overclocked the CPU to 4.1GHz but it started blue screening after about a year and I didn't want to push more voltage into it as it was already pretty high. I sure didn't win the silicon lottery on this one. Sadly, the best stable overclock I can run now is 3.8GHz. I learned to OC on this PC.

Overall, the frame drops are noticeable, but bearable, on my 2K BenQ gaming monitor. Mainly used for school, playing WoW, Hearthstone & Overwatch. I think not too terrible for a 1st build.

Could be worse, all things considered. I second the suggestion of the Ryzen 5 1600 for an upgrade down the road.

Well, the PC works and it can play games, albeit not very well. The FX could never utilize that much RAM as it would get too bogged down to do anything. At least all the DIMMs are populated so it looks better.

Maybe consider an upgrade to the Ryzen 1600. I promise you'll notice a good boost to performance.

The 970 is still a very solid card. So if you decide to upgrade you could keep the 970.

Anyhow, the PC works. At least you have one that is capable.

I am selling this System! Check out my saved parts list 'The New Build - Ryzen 7 1700' for a project that is currently in progress. :D
