Description

As stated in title this is only my second build and following getting a career and moving up in life i wanted to go all out. Tons of changes were made in the process as well as some faulty parts. asrock motherboard was sadly DOA and returned my FTW3 card to snag a poseidon but grew impatient and went with the strix. started with a green color theme with the thermaltake riing fans but felt that they were pretty underwhelming in the air movement department especially with the evolv case being so restrictive anyways. my cable mod kit was pretty disappointing so now i'm going purple and going ensourced (gotta recharge the funds)! anyways i eventually upgraded to the corsair ml's and man they move some mucho air big improvement. also preordered the modmymods custom top for the case to allow better airflow (still waiting). not sure if i would suggest this case to anyone looking to buy it. it's beautiful but definitely has its draw backs. everyday i seriously consider the lian-li pc011 rog edition but more money and nausea.....upgraded my battle station! just ordered everything to perform a delid. my 7700k runs hot and honestly any excuse to mess with my rig is good for me. cable management still needs lots of work. next step will be a full custom petg loop with ram and motherboard cooling as well as the usual cpu and gpu. it truly never ends but that's pcmr. anyways thanks for looking and reading!

Really vibrant build, the Asus strix card never gets old to look at. Could you elaborate on how you mounted your GPU 'vertically' (?), or elaborate on it at all?

Thanks!

i did leave that out my bad. i used the vertical gpu kit from cooler masters eu store that comes with the riser cable. had to mod the case by cutting out ALL the pci slots on the back of my case. unfortunately i didn't have a ton of pics of the process but i did include the cringy cutting of the pci slots. in hindsight even though it looks amazing i'm not sure i would do it again as now the case is forever going to be pci slot-less. if i wanted to get a high end soundcard i wouldn't be able to. that being said the kit from cooler master is top notch and i have experienced no problems with the riser cable.

Ahh, fair enough. I was just looking into mounting my GPU vertically, as I saw CoolerMasters mounting option but apparently only for their cases. Probably make some esquires about it.

Thanks. (:

eventually i'm going to do recording stuff but the learning curve always kills me. lazy i guess :-/

Obviously it's an impressive machine however, less lights and marketing and more power!

$500 on a motherboard seems excessive -- I also remember Linus saying that RAM clock frequencies have little impact on real world gaming performance which also makes me think you could have saved some money here too.

I would have put some of that money towards a threadripper or i9 instead for some bang for your buck but otherwise I love the colour choice and I'm jelly! :P

Good stuff.

yea i probably got ripped on my mobo (microcenter) but i can say i've had absolutely no problems with it which is refreshing. everyday i consider upgrading already to an i9 or threadripper at the time these things were just on the horizon and my patience was 0% on putting a new build on hold. also probably going to take all the case stickers off. every build you learn about yourself and what you like. i've always thought case badges were cool but as time has gone on with this build i feel like it's just gaudy and takes away from the beauty of the machine.

Ah fair enough haha, I can totally understand the lack of patience, especially when so excited to put something new together.

This is true, philosophy can come from all walks of life!

I agree with the stickers, they seldom compliment the build in all of its glory; however a custom paint job is something I'd consider if anything.

Good job though, looks very cool.

What nodding kit is that for the dom plat?

kit from cable mod. dug it at first but went back to the shiny corsair kit.

Im looking in these corsair ML fans. Did you use a pwm hub to connect them? Or just directly connected on your motherboard? :)

i connected them to the hub that came with the phanteks case. the MLs move serious air but they are louder then i was expecting but it doesn't bother me. also might be an obvious thing to note but you can't dim or brighten them. already considering getting the corsair rgbs but i could probably open a store with the stuff ive bought and not used.

Btw, love the build and the process of upgrades. Been feeling the same recently. Haha i previously aimed to get aer rgb. But damn, needs to have hue+ which is kind of a downer. So i think, ML would fly.

Is it just me or do those Dominator Platinum RAM LEDs seem like their colors are always syncing with the rest of the RGB? Is that a mod or something? Maybe just me, I dont know...

Cooler Master sells a kit to do it that also comes with the riser (beware there is a cheaper version without the riser cable). You have to mod your case though by cutting out the rear pci slots though. so be careful im considering an SLI setup now and ill have to buy a new case. some cases come with vertical gpu compatibility already though if that seems like a safer bet.
