Description

Greetings PC Building Enthusiasts!

So this is the result of a few used parts that I slowly accumulated over the past few months, the CPU, motherboard and CPU cooler were part of a combo that I got on eBay a while back. I was a little bit apprehensive about using a Sandybridge CPU but after looking at multiple benchmark scores and seeing that (once overclocked) it performs as well as a Ryzen 3 1200 I was more relieved.

The GTX 770 has been my go-to for budget builds that require a GPU for under $80 and I was lucky because I got this one in a pair of two for $160 before the current mining madness. It performs great in 1080p and I really have no complaints about the price/performance. I bought the HDD, Case and PSU new online and they perform fine. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the case! For something that's sub $40 it has a lot of great features! Cable management was a breeze and the PSU shroud was a huge plus, highly recommend.

All in all it was a fun build and it went to a good home, someone who was on a tight budget wanted a gaming machine for games like Overwatch, Destiny 2 and PUBG. He's super happy with it!

Thanks for looking at the build, feel free to leave a comment and I'll try to reply to all of them lol

Excellent budget build. +1

I recently put together a similar build except with an i5 2400. Same gpu though. I was incredibly impressed with its performance in the same games you mentioned. Just goes to show that you don’t always have to have the latest and greatest to be able to enjoy your rig. I gave the one I built to a friend and he couldn’t have been happier. I really like your choice of case there. I wish I had known about that one. I went with the cooler master tg 3.1, and while it was a great budget case, it cost more and didn’t look as good as the one you chose. Also didn’t have a psu shroud

That's so cool, yeah the 2400 is a great CPU too from what I hear! I really was surprised about this case though, super good value!

My Sandybridge from 2011 still plays today's games on high!! Great chip!

Yup, it's a scrappy little CPU, does an admirable job!

Thank you for making this. I was planning to get a system my 8 year daughter and I could build together this gives me some good ideas on how to approach it.

Absolutely, I'm glad you were a little bit inspired! This website is a great resource for putting something like this together!

Great write-up. I'm really enjoying reading about these budget builds. Despite the fact that graphics card now hovers right around $110-140, it's still a good price point for what it can do. Gave me some direction with my current build situation, so props to being thrifty.

Thanks man, that means a lot! Yeah, it's unfortunate that GTX 770's were affected by the GPUpocalypse but if you're persistent I think you still might be able to find one for around $80-$100 hopefully!

nice build! will this play in nice setting guild wars 2? and where did you get those prices?

Thanks! Yeah, it should play GW2 pretty well, I haven't run benchmarks but from what I know about GTX 770 performance it should be more than enough.

The prices on the parts are the prices I paid, I either purchased them used on eBay/reddit or in the case of the HDD, PSU and Case I bought them new lol

RIGHT?!?! Isn't that crazy? I'm a big fan of breathing new life into old hardware, thanks for the comment!
