KRySTaLoGi PC Part List & Pricing

These parts have been in the works since March 2015. Our Canadian Dollar has taken a poop, so that doesn’t help my build much either. Keep in mind, I have yet to buy a couple parts, specifically the Heatsink and GPU. Also painted some parts of the case with a Ford Cardinal Red Automotive Paint. Looks quite nice I think.

What does the name KRySTaLoGi mean?

I decided to play the name into the red, black, and white color scheme. This is the first PC I’ve put together with an actual build long so I wanted to give the PC a name.

English name from the vocabulary word crystal = 'crystal (clear, colourless glass)' which derives ultimately from Greek κρυσταλλος (krystallos) = 'ice' Old Norse logi = 'flame, blaze'

The system is cooled with ice-inspired whites, while the red represents fiery poops performance. Black is pretty common among computer hardware, so I didn’t bother to include that in the name. I have this terrible love for VoWeLCaSe lettering when it comes to naming hardware devices, so I put my own spin on CrystalLogi, removed the double L’s, and threw a K up front in place of the C. Done. Next.

Very nice build, high quality pictures and +1 for the cat and the coffee mug. For my next build I will buy the 240 case. First I thought it would be too small but after seeing yours and many others, I think it is a good choice.

2 questions came to my mind:

1 - It looked like you were putting the case with the window to the side, then I saw it on the top. Do you change the orientation? (+ I didn't see Corsairs technique for the bases, is it changeable without leaving holes in the case?)

2 - As I plan on putting it with the window on top, would it result in poorer air flow?

1 . You can orient the case with the Window at the top or the side. Corsair does supply rubber feet with 3M adhesive, but I have not applied them yet. No holes get drilled or punched out, so your case remains clean should you decide to change orientation later.) 2. Airflow with this case is actually a lot better than I had thought when building it. I don't think airflow will be hindered much if you orient it as I did with the window on the side, unless your graphics card is hungry for air which you could intake from the grill beside it.

You can see from my wiring job I wanted to keep everything super clean and tidy so the air was unrestricted, but I don't think this was necessary. (Does make the case look great though.) As I have it configured, my only intake is through the front grill, and the exhaust is through the back 80mm fan slots.

The stock Corsair 120mm fans are quite noisy when oriented horizontally, so I have the one in the top of my case unplugged. Before I added 2 Arctic Cooling 80mm fans to the rear 80mm fan slots above the motherboard, I was still sitting around 35-45 Celsius idle and 65-80 Celsius under load with the stock Intel furnace heatsink.

Absolutely brilliant paintjob, I actually had a very similar idea around the air 240. Was painting the stripes at all irritating? Did you need to go back and do some touch ups?

The most annoying part of painting the stripes was disassembling the metal from the plastic chassis. Corsair used some screws, and a lot of bent metal tabs. Once you get past those though it's easy.

We didn't need to go back for touchups because I spend 30 minutes masking off the metal parts. We did however do 3 coats of paint just to cover all the areas. Turned out great I think!

Unfortunately I did not take any in depth photos of the disassembly of the metal pieces from the plastic. It's fairly straightforward though and only take about an hour to do.

You first need to remove the two longer top and bottom panels using the thumbscrews at the back, and then the side panels as well. You'll be able to reach the plastic white tabs that hold the front panel on and push them (gently) to release the front panel. The nice thing here is that the front IO isn't actually attached to the panel.

Once you've got the 3 panels removed, it's simply a matter of unscrewing the metal inserts, and manoeuvring the plastic dust filters out from under the metal tabs on the back side of the panels. The tabs can handle a bend or two, but don't repeatedly bend them or you'll weaken them. I only bent what I had to, and otherwise used the bendability of the dust filters to my advantage.

Im considering adding the graphics card that you used, but can you tell me about how well it fit? I didn't see any pictures with it.

To this day, I still do not have the GTX 960 listed in my parts - it is far too expensive due to the crappy Canadian dollar. I did try to test fit a friend's GTX 970 into my case, but sadly it will not fit, which means there is a strong possibility the MSI GTX 960 won't fit either. I might end up getting a PCIe riser cable and mounting the GPU vertically.

The current GPU in the system now is an old Radeon HD 5570 1GB from an Acer computer.

I'm not sure why his 960 doesnt fit... I use a 970 SC ACX 2.0 in my Air 240 and it fits fine. That case was designed for SLI/Crossfire as well...
