Description

This build took longer than I originally planned - which almost entirely revolved around order, ship, and wait time through the course of 3 CPU coolers before landing on just the right fit on the 4th. The intent wasn't to use an AIO in a mini-itx, but for the first two semi-passive cooler attempts, it was either to wide (cryorig C7 - interfered with dual 80mm rear exhaust), or a measly 5-6mm to tall (phanteks phtc12dx). Then I made the executive decision to switch to a 120mm AIO (w/ side panel minimal custom drilled mount), but for my first try there, I didn't like the build quality of the unit (TT Water 3.0), so pulled it. But finally, saved the best for last, and landed on the Deepcool Captain 120ex - perfecto! It's all in the details - the primary color is obviously white, with obligatory black, but upon closer look, copper is the oh so sweet accent color. Custom painted knurled screw mounts, rear panel closure, aluminum cable combs, and even the power buttons.

nice looking build! I would like to add a radiator to side panel, can you please add a photo from the outer angle of it please?

Added, should be last photo in line-up (just a close up of one already shown - sort of 3/4 view). It only took two small added drill holes, the other two screw mounts lined-up perfectly through the honeycomb mesh already in the side panel.

why a gt 1030 you could spend like 60 bucks more and get a radeon rx 570 with twice the pergformance

If I had to take a guess, he's going to be doing a bunch of CPU-oriented stuff with next to no GPU load and just got the cheapest white GPU he could find

@dswiftdesign am I close?

nailedit lol

  • see my 2017 build for graphics and rendering performance
  • also gpu for this build is a 60 second swap out should ever need to instantly upgrade - the rest of the system already there.

Nice!

Side note, I really like the mild steampunk aesthetic that's going on here, with the cooler and keyboard at least. Planning on taking it any further over time, or is this its semi-final form?

All done, except if ever need to pop in a beefier gpu. Otherwise on to the next one. I do like the bang for the buck on this one though. Overkill on the psu, but worth it on the budget because of the included white and individually braided psu cables. This was huge because to buy a lesser 450w or 500w none were white and would spend $50-100 on replacing all the stock black cables with white ones.

The gt 1030 is a scam! It’s probably the sddr4 version of the gt 1030

Get something like a GTX 1050 ti or a 1060

Wow. Good look'n out. I had no idea the bait and switch going on with the gt 1030. Here's a solid rundown of the misleading name from one version to the other. This cards on paper appears to be in the clear as its spec'd as the GDDR5 version not the system robbing DDR4. BUT definitely digging deeper. Thanks again for the tip.

I also used this exact case and that same power supply and I have to say I hated putting those cables in the combs that came with it. ugh. I also used a aio and that was a pain training the cables around that plus a 140mm fan I wish I would have considered what you did mounting it on the side like that bravo!

Nice looking build. I was wondering if that 200mm fan fit in the case with no issues?

Sorry for the delayed response. No issues at all. Pulled out the stock TT 200mm, and replaced with perfect fit TT Riing 200mm.

How do you feel about the AIO? I personally wanted this one but the 360 mm version and I see some reviews that is leaks.

imo solid. Hosing, coupling, and not to be overlooked but quality of the pwm fan. In fact out of the three brands I went through, Deepcools stock fan had highest quality fan - blades and only one with stock anti-vibration mounts. The others seemed to be steering you toward upgrading the included fan to one of their higher quality stand alone fans, e.g. spend more.

The keyboard has matching white mouse but sold out. Brand is Azio.
