Well originally I chose the Western Digital Cavier and this was another headache... literally. My build was depressingly making a loud humming noise that at first I thought was the graphics card. After some sleuthing, and since I had my OS on the SSD I unplugged the hard drive and thank God again the noise went away.

I bought the Seagate on Amazon and day later it was prrrfect. Doens't make any noise at all.

I just replaced a corrupted 2TB hard drive with this for file storage; luckily, I had all my files backed up to a WD My Book 2TB external drive unlike my Great Hard Drive Crash of '11 in which I lost 500GB of irreplaceable recordings, writing, and photographs (there are two types of people in this world: those who've lost data and those who will). I would've sprung for a 4TB drive, but for some odd reason, Seagate's 4TB hard drive in the same series has a lower spindle speed (5900rpm), so I chose speed over amount of storage as 3TB plus the free space on my solid state and external drives should be enough even for large WAV, RAW, and MPEG files. I will report back with a proper review once I've spent enough time with this Barracuda catch - a rating is mandatory, so I'm giving it five stars judging by how accurate the read/write speeds & performance are compared to the advertisements and because of the very low $90 price tag (three cents per gigabyte and $30 per terabyte).
