Description

First off, I'm 15 and I don't have a lot of experience building high end computers like this. That being said, this was a great build! It was very easy, and the end product was awesome! I use this primarily for gaming and programming although I do like to mess around with virtual machines (I still use my laptop for school work because it has all my old files on it).

I do a lot of gaming (through steam) like CSGO, ARMA II CO, ARMA 3, Civ V and FTL. I also play minecraft and WoT occasionally.

I plan to OC the GPU, I just haven't had time yet because of school. I did OC the CPU though to 4.5Ghz (and increased the core voltage to 1.1200 I believe). I also am going to word a backup hard drive, which I forgot to order initially. My two SSDs are in RAID 0, for extreme performance. (it boots in 9.7 seconds from pressing the power button to desktop, with about 130Gb on the RAID array). In the future I plan to upgrade my mouse and my keyboard (I just bought a thermaltake eSports headset also) and make some sleeved cables for my PSU. Also I would like to get a third monitor (run games in surround, and for programming have source code, compiler output and header files/database on separate screens). That's the only reason I went with the 4GB card, not the 2GB one.

I haven't had any problems yet, although I was worried about a few bad reviews concerning the OCZ ZX850 being DOA, it worked wonderfully right out the box. The only minor problems I had were that the 8 pin CPU cable was just barely long enough forcing me to wrestle it into place, and that the 24 pin ATX connector seemed to have a capacitor wedged in on the end that connected to the motherboard, forcing the cable to stick out farther than I wanted. The only reason I went with this PSU over the corsair AX850 was because I got it for $100 after some very extensive MIRs.

I was overall pretty proud of the cable management, although the state of the space behind the motherboard isn't ideal.

This was my first build focused not only on functionality, but also on aesthetics. I have rebuilt a few servers, and I have a little group with my friends were we rebuild computers out of old parts and give them away to people who need them, but this was something a bit different. Also WAY more high end than anything I've built before...took me forever to save up for this (I have a job).

Lastly, I got the parts over the holiday sales, and the total was something around 1900 with the MIRs, so the price shown here isn't quite accurate. Without this site I am very sure I wouldn't have been able to do a build like this, because it would be too much work to compile prices for each part from many different sites, thanks so much!

Very lastly I named it M-Zero after the supercomputer the Chudnovsky brothers built in their apartment to calculate Pi.

Enjoy :D

P.S. The pictures seem to be in a randomized order, sorry for that...

EDIT: Got a Corsair M60.

This is possibly one of the most beautiful builds I've seen in a long time.

Bravo!

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 2 points 20 months ago

Thank you! :D

Muneem2 7 points 20 months ago

WHERE DO YOU PEOPLE GET THIS MONEY FROM? I'm 15 as well, and the most money I can save up is about 800.

I'm beyond jealous, you have one hell of a beautiful system. Do you plan on SLI down the road or upping to a next-gen card or card[s]?

Edit: You haz job

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 20 months ago

Hahaha, yes I have a job. I got it for two reasons: One, for SLI, but also I wanted this PSU to last a long time (possibly use it in next build) so I didn't want a PSU were I would be pushing it, because it wouldn't last as long.

Hellvaguy [1 Build] 2 points 20 months ago

With that 680 @ 4gb you wont ever have to sli, unless for some reason you want to do triple monitors at 2500x1600 each.

the13yearoldgenius 1 point 8 months ago

Can you still a 770 and a 680 I'm just curious :-P

the13yearoldgenius 1 point 8 months ago

Sli***

Hellvaguy [1 Build] 1 point 7 months ago

Nope. Sli has to have identical gpu's.

Dukex1011 [3 Builds] 3 points 20 months ago

do you play world of tanks? also how is the mobo. working for you, mine is was wicked easy to overclock with

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 20 months ago

Yes I do :D The mobo is freaking awesome!! OC was unbelievably easy

Dukex1011 [3 Builds] 1 point 20 months ago

whats your username? ( mine is Duke1011 )

suihigh [1 Build] 3 points 20 months ago

that mobo is smexy drools my build ive been planning for awhile now, was gonna go with a Asus Z77 Sabertooth but i think i changed my mind xD

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 2 points 20 months ago

I went with this one cause of the 24/7 OC certificate, the onboard wifi and bluetooth, and a lot more cool features you don't often see in boards under $200

JaceFarell 1 point 7 months ago

Really? onboard wifi and bluetooth? I might have to look into that for my first build I'm making this month. It's a little more expensive than the one I have now, but it sounds pretty good. Is it worth it?

Edit: I can't seem to find it anywhere, doesn't look like they sell it online anymore.

BC1096 3 points 17 months ago

Damn, that's a nice looking build lol. Also your desk O.o wow. Good to see someone actually earning what they get at a young age. I'm 16 and my build was,.,$2894? Something like that, so I get how you feel about saving money lol. But damn the buid is awesome and your desk is amazing. What's with the layout plan on top, just out of curiosity. Looks cool though.

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 17 months ago

Thanks! My dad and I built the desk, and the layout plans are for our house, I'm pretty interested in architecture as well as computer engineering, and I put those up after our house was remodeled.

BC1096 1 point 17 months ago

Well, you guys did an awesome job on the desk :D. The layout plans make the setup look...legit? Idk how to describe it the whole thing looks awesome

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 17 months ago

Thank you! Lol, i know what you mean :D

Teejers [2 Builds] 2 points 20 months ago

For a 15 year old, you did an amazing job on this build! If the work on your own build and your charitable computer refurbs are any indication of the kind of young lad you are, then I believe you have a very bright future ahead of you.

Keep up the good work and sweet rig!

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 20 months ago

Thanks!

hdmiller610 [2 Builds] 2 points 20 months ago

Wow thats sexy, im 14 going on 15 in June. And I built a PC on black friday, but its no where as nice as this. I had an $800 budget. Looks like your hard work paid off though!

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 20 months ago

Awesome :D I kinda wish I had gotten mine on black friday/cyber monday, there were some crazy deals! I've had this job since right before last summer, and I'm lucky because I actually like it, so it's easier for me to keep working even during the school year.

Bseagull 2 points 20 months ago

What job? I'm also 14 going on 15 soon(ish) and need cash! It's been like 3 months and I've only got like $300! I'm on a crappy laptop right now, and that really doesn't work for Planetside 2...

Great job with the build, too!

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 3 points 20 months ago

I have a job at an architectural firm doing some IT related things for them, and occasionally they ask me about computer related things for a job. I.e. what kind of switches to get, routers, server racks/cabinets etc. It started as an internship, but now I just work there part time.

Bseagull 7 points 20 months ago

At 15?!?!?! DAMN!

miniclipgamer [2 Builds] 4 points 20 months ago

DAYUHM! I bet every one of us reading this (since we're on a computer building website) envys that job right now.

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 2 points 20 months ago

Yeah, I was really lucky!

miniclipgamer [2 Builds] 1 point 8 months ago

Looking back at this build, still jelly of that job.

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

Ahaha i've been pretty lucky!

here is the updated partslist with some pictures:

miniclipgamer [2 Builds] 1 point 8 months ago

Nice bro!

And why are there a bunch of blueprints, is that wallpaper?

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

I used to be really into architecture (still am, though to a lesser extent), they're one of the drafts of the plans for our house remodel.

miniclipgamer [2 Builds] 1 point 8 months ago

Sweet. My dad's an architect.

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

That's awesome! What kinda stuff does he do?

miniclipgamer [2 Builds] 2 points 8 months ago

Mostly commercial offices and storage buildings, barely any residential(our house, a few other houses, etc.)

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

Nice!

pc_noob [1 Build] 2 points 20 months ago

I love that case but Im waiting for the 900d to come out

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 20 months ago

The 900D is gonna be freaking awesome!!! Have you seen the linustechips video about it? I thought about getting the 800D, but it didn't really fit for a build like this, with no SLI or custom LCing (also it was quite a bit more). Corsair is releasing some awesome stuff :D

pc_noob [1 Build] 1 point 20 months ago

who hasnt :)

Domination468 [1 Build] 2 points 20 months ago

Beautiful...just beautiful.

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 20 months ago

Thanks! :)

noob_for_life 2 points 20 months ago

great build im the same age and im planning A build soon the only thing i would have changed is the gtx 680, i would have gotten the msi lightning version to mach the mobo

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 2 points 20 months ago

Yeah, I thought about that. But I am planning to try and get a third monitor, so the 2GB would be a bottleneck at that kind of resolution. The EVGA card is pretty color neutral, so I just went with that :D

Frostbyter 2 points 20 months ago

VERY sexy build!

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 20 months ago

Thanks!!

wickedplayer494 [1 Build] 2 points 20 months ago

Very nice. You could have went with 1600 or 1333 RAM, but other than that, this is perfect.

callmejon [1 Build] 2 points 20 months ago

WOW I am so jelly! I'm 16 and the most I could justify spending on my build was $750.

miniclipgamer [2 Builds] 2 points 20 months ago

Niiiiice. With that graphics card, you could probably run 50 instances of Minecraft on 50 different screens (okay, maybe not that many). Be sure to check out Team Fortress 2.

Back to the actual build. That is an amazing build you've got there. I'd love to see it boot in 10 seconds, thats pretty epic (You must have to spam f12 to get to the bios, lol) Where the heck do you come up with $2000 to spend on a gaming pc like this as a 15 year old? The only place you could possibly work is a grocery store as a bagboy at minimum wage, so thats a hell of a lot of hours if thats the case.

Overall, I can't find anything that looks like it would screw you over, so great job!

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 20 months ago

In one of the previous comments I explain where I work...thanks :D

miniclipgamer [2 Builds] 1 point 20 months ago

Oh, I must have overlooked that one.

NoYMiNaToR [1 Build] 2 points 20 months ago

woah, how come your power/reset is yellow and mine is booger green?! and how's the 680 performance? I'm thinking of getting that for 1440p gaming in place of the 7870 cfx.

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 20 months ago

Looking in my case mine is pretty "booger green" it's probably just the camera. The 680 is freaking crazy! I think the 7870s (in cfx) would give you a little bit better performance (just guessing), but really, AMD's drivers leave something to be desired, and drivers are very important when running a multi card setup.

xMadmike01 [1 Build] 2 points 20 months ago

this is a sexy beast :P

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 20 months ago

Thanks :D

crystalcloud [1 Build] 2 points 19 months ago

Kofi96 2 points 19 months ago

i really like the 650D

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 19 months ago

Yeah, it's an awesome case!!

Kofi96 1 point 19 months ago

Nice I will definitely be getting it just looks classy

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 19 months ago

Definitely!

Codyteen 2 points 19 months ago

That is a lot of thermal past... But this is a really good build.

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 19 months ago

What? The thermal paste on the h100i came preapplied. I don't think there's a picture of thermal paste anyways. Lol, thanks!

xMadmike01 [1 Build] 2 points 19 months ago

I love your computer want to swap xD. but really nice build man this is amazing

Kofi96 2 points 19 months ago

is gaming on 2 monitors weird i have heard that you should either use 1 or 3

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 19 months ago

I don't game on both, just one. I use the other one for TS3 or skype etc...

PacificNic [2 Builds] 2 points 19 months ago

Freaking awesome build! Too bad you don't have another 680... :P :D

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 2 points 19 months ago

Lol, ikr! I plan to try and get one if I can find a good deal...not sure if that's gonna happen though.

construction [3 Builds] 2 points 19 months ago

I'm 14 and hope when I get enough money to build my computer I do as good a job as you :) well done

how do you like the keyboard?

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 14 months ago

It's pretty good, but I'm getting a mechanical keyboard soon. I like it.

Mincading [10 Builds] 2 points 14 months ago

ur so late bro >< hows the comp holding out? :)

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 14 months ago

Yeah, sorry about that. It's great! I installed a custom loop two weeks ago, went on vacation and got back wednesday, no leaks yet! I will post an update when I have time.

kidbuu 2 points 18 months ago

Let me guess, u are using the Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 6000 right? I'm using the same one for my laptop, though the silver coating seems to peel off pretty fast cuz I have sweaty hands. :/ Anyway nice build bro, I love it especially the case! :D

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 18 months ago

I was using that. I got a corsair m60 though...night and day :D The MS mouse was great for a while though (3 years) it just wasn't really for gaming and the laser also went.

Enlyten [1 Build] 2 points 18 months ago

Insanely nice build. Good choice of parts, and Intel SSD's are SOO reliable. Also a great color scheme which is always nice, and your cable management is pretty stellar. That is an awesome case.

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 18 months ago

Thank you! :D It's great! No problems with the SSDs yet!

mccuaig97 2 points 18 months ago

How is that graphics card working out for you? I have been trying to pick a graphics card for around that price range and am wondering how it performs.

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 14 months ago

It's rock freaking solid, however now get a 770 or 780 in that price range.

aragorn98 2 points 17 months ago

Nice. Personally I would get an MSI GTX 680 Lightning but that doesn't come in a 4GB model. You really will not need to SLI for a while. Really nice and I wouldn't mind something similar.

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 17 months ago

Thank you! I considered the 680 lightning, but I really didn't need all that overclocking potential (only mild OC on the GPU) and I did need the 4GB model for surround.

aragorn98 2 points 17 months ago

Fair enough

JLMCS2012 [3 Builds] 2 points 17 months ago

I think you did a great job on the build. The 650D is one of my favorite cases. Nice work.

I'm a bit late to the post, but how are you doing with that motherboard? I have it ordered and its being delivered now and want to know if i have made a good decision.

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 16 months ago

It's running great! No problems. I pushed my i5 to 4.73Ghz (VCore of 1.349) but the temps were so high, and the fans on the H100i were super loud, I took it back down to 4.5Ghz.

Dead-Xilence [1 Build] 2 points 16 months ago

I am a big fan of the high quality photos and lrofessional grade focus you managed to capture with the camera. Amazing looking PC as well.

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 16 months ago

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it

bsdev820 [1 Build] 2 points 15 months ago

Very, very nice. As you probably know based off of your earlier comment on my rig I am in a very similar position as you and you put together a great build. Nice work - your cable management job is far superior to mine. BTW - do you plan on getting a third monitor for surround like I did?

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 15 months ago

Thanks! Yeah, I definitely do...gonna LC my rig very soon (hopefully in the next week or so) and will buy a third monitor then.

EDIT: I'll post pics when I'm done.

yea im planning to get a job waorking with basic IT and building computers for people who think xbox and are the best thing since sliced bread.......lol

but here is my build, i saw your build and i was like get that 750d out of here and replaced it with the switch 810, i saw linus's video on it and i fell in love with it :D lol

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2w7yd

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

Nice! I was also thinking about the switch, but I actually PM'ed linus and asked him, and he said the 810 felt a bit plasticky, so I went with the 650D. However now, after I put in a custom LC loop I wish I had gone with a full tower...I had to mod the front fan to fit a 140mm rad, and the res installation was a bit cramped. Overall though, it's a really awesome case! Great for a build on air imo.

Whippa92 2 points 6 months ago

Nice build. Very well done

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 2 points 6 months ago

In the upper right corner of the site there is a little (1) next to my name, not next to the mail icon, but my name. I can't click on it. What does that one represent?

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 3 points 20 months ago

Now it is (2) What is it??

miniclipgamer [2 Builds] 2 points 20 months ago

Thats your reputation. If I were to, say, like this comment that I'm replying to, it would go to 3. If someone dislikes it after I like it, it goes back to 2.

Understand it now?

(Oh, by the way, I did just like your comment :3)

Was the GTX 680 srsly £5000?

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 10 months ago

Ahahaha, definitely not. Sounds like some sort of bug. I got it for around $500 USD.

Chuk 1 point 10 months ago

Oh, O.K.! Yeah...To see for yourself change your country to United Kingdom; click on "Video card" and put the price in highest to lowest, your GTX 680 is at the top. :P

th3m4dh4tt3r [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 10 months ago

Yeah, looks like some third party seller on amazon set their price like that, lol.

Chuk 1 point 10 months ago

You're probably right...You now seem to be a lot more down to Earth now, because at the bottom it said your system was £7,000. I now know it's around £2000, cheers!

Nasus 1 point 9 months ago

Why the dominator over the vengeance?

They are awesome, but I regret not getting 144hz monitors as I play counter strike competitively. I think there are also newer models now.

you could have saved money on going with the 2gig gtx 680. (with the OC on the GPU) my friends have had problems with the 4 gig as it runs a bit slower than the 2gig. Unless you went with 4 monitors you dont need all that power. Just saying. you could have used the money to get the i7 3770k for a more efficient core OC. and couldhave gone with a 240g SSD for 80 bucks cheaper than 2 120g SSD. Also you could have went with the H80 CFM, because again my friends have had problems with the bigger ones and could have given you more room in your case. And why not go with the Sabertooth moBO?

(1) I got the 4 gig version because I plan to do surround with three monitors

(2) Don't need hyperthreading

(3) Wanted to RAID 0 the two SSDs

(4) H100i works beautifully in my case, and I have plenty of room.

(5) The board I got has many more bells and whistles then the sabertooth, and is $50 cheaper (OC certified, debug LED, power Light strip, reset, power, CMOS buttons right on board etc). Aaaand, imo it looks better

Hmmm that Raid O seems like an odd choice. What benefits do you see from that? I'm not doing as much high end stuff as you got going on there, so I never looked much into that, but my 250gb ssd boots windows 7 in about 10 secs.

Lol and obviously the dominator ram is a total waste of money, but they do look pretty sweet.

The SSDs in RAID 0 give me crazy R/W speeds, essentially twice as fast. I found someone selling two new ones on craigslist for 80), and I figured meh, why not? The dominator ram really doesn't give you anything other than sexiness, but it too was on sale for only a bit more than a lot of other high end ram kits. (75 @microcenter).

He already bought it, so why post this comment? It'd be a waste to throw out his $500 card for a $400 one. Visualizes a stick figure throwing out a GTX 680 Gotta go through that stick figures trash!

Well people do give critiques of builds. Kinda the whole point of a critique is to say what you like or don't like or for some, to get more information on certain choices. What did think the comments were supposed to be, just one big lovefest? Ok well a lot of that is warranted here because of all the awesomeness.

He may want to future-proof it as future games will use more VRAM.
