Description

This build is working, but it isn't yet complete. I still need:

  • 1TB HDD + 120GB SSD (maybe)

  • 7870 GHz Edition/270x/760/280x

  • Windows 7

The SSD is from my father's workplace. Nobody is using it, so it won't be missed while I borrow it for a while :). And... also the monitors... and the keyboard... and the mouse (Don't worry! I'll upgrade the keyboard/mouse later)

Parts

CPU: 8350 is a pretty good processor. Obviously bottlenecked from the 210, it's still good. I OCed it to 4.5GHz without having to change anything but the multiplier, so I could ramp it up even more. The GPU also it a big bottleneck, so I can't really see my CPU in much action (for now...)

CPU Cooler: It's great and pretty quiet. I just hate the fact I bought it on Newegg accidentally for 10 bucks more. I could have got it for $30! Oh well, it works great and there hasn't been any problems. Well, It took some work putting the cooler on the mobo, but being a first builder I was nervous about that.

Motherboard: I bought this one because it saved me $20-$30 with the processor, and I also found it to be a very good board by reviews.

RAM: I found this at Fry's, and it does what it needs to do! After I OCed my CPU to 4.5, the RAM changed (in the BIOS) to 1600 to 900. I think this means it's running at 1800, but I'll be sure when I get Windows 7 and look on some Software.

Case: I should have went with a nicer case, but it works just fine. Very good bays and good cable management room, but could be better. I spent a long time trying to get the CPU cable to the back today.

Case Fans: Eh, not as bright as they could be, but they work! I have two intakes in the front and one blower on the top.

PSU: Get a Modular one! I thought it wouldn't make too much of a difference, but having all these giant cables are annoying when you don't even need them at the moment!

GPU: It's a 210 from my little brother. I only have it in here to have the PC running. I love the fan on it, makes this nice noise sometimes (imagine a rock in a washing machine, very soothing). I can only really (now) play World of Tanks, Runescape, and TF2 on low :).

Dogs: Morons.

Hope you like my build! I appreciate any tips or things you could tell me! I will be putting a GPU in, my own HDD and maybe an SSD.

I can't say I'm a fan of that case, but otherwise it looks nice. I can't wait to see it when you get a proper video card in there. :)

Firecrackers [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks. It's decent but I'd probably go with a Fractal/Corsair next.

elitev1 [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

I have the white version of the Apevia Sniper, Its a love hate, in which people hate that they love it and didn't buy it themselves!

Maybe for my next build I will go with a more modern looking case, but I wanted something that stood out of the crowd.

Firecrackers [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

Haha! I checked it out, yeah it looks very nice. I just hate how DARK the window is, so the fans don't give the best glow possible :P

I saw you had the 7870 GHz, I might go for the 270, as it comes with free bf4 and it runs basically the same as a 270x. Is it pretty good?

elitev1 [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

I'm fine with the window being dark, I wanted it to look clean and unique, not a ricer with under glow on his Honda!

I like the 7870, haven't had a game I couldn't play at 60fps on high or ultra high.

Firecrackers [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

Ah, good point :). Yeah the 7870 and the 270/270x are just great cards. They are really cheap and are probably the best bang for the buck out there.

screw jagex .. ruined my favourite game.. I actually liked pre-eoc.. :/ had been playing since 2004

joshj2398 [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

Yeah same. When EOC was released, it felt like some of the best times of my childhood were thrown into an incinerator with all the new crap being implemented into the game. At least Jagex bothered releasing OSRS.

Firecrackers [Submitter] [1 Build] 2 points 8 months ago

Yeah that's what I mostly play as of now. It's pretty fun.

joshj2398 [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

Yep same I usually just hop on EOC every now and then to see what the game looks like.

fsma92 [2 Builds] 1 point 8 months ago

I couldn't bother restarting over after having a main with 2300 total and a 2000 total turmoil pure 80/99/30 with all other combat stats at 99.. screw them lol

joshj2398 [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

Lol yeah my main on EOC RS is total 2100 and I had the same feelings, but I actually advanced all my skills really fast with the help of doing XP quests at a really early level and in like 3/3.5 weeks (not constant playing) my att str and def were up to 60 and now I'm working on 80 on all 3 while doing slayer (level 55). For some reason it took for ****ing ever to get my skills up on my main that I'd been playing on since 2005, but now I'm already re-reaching my levels.

is your dog floating?

Firecrackers [Submitter] [1 Build] 6 points 8 months ago

It does that sometimes. We tried feeding her more, but it doesn't do too much.

18hockey [1 Build] 2 points 8 months ago

Your dog needs some lessons in gravity :P

Nice build, but why did you go for a 970 chipset and not a 990X?

Firecrackers [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

Oh, I got a deal on the 970. I also didn't know the differences too much between the boards. It still works nice, though!

SaturnaGN 1 point 8 months ago

Don't expect to accomplish much overclocking with a 970 motherboard with the 8350

Firecrackers [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

I don't plan on overclocking heavily. I could have gotten a better mobo and overclocked the heck out of it, but it seems to do what I need it to do.

fsma92 [2 Builds] 2 points 8 months ago

4.0 is great ;p

sqielyr 1 point 8 months ago

Nice doges

Firecrackers [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks. They like you too.

RustyBaker [5 Builds] 1 point 8 months ago

Love the name, and when you get those parts, I think it will come closer to living up to it.

Firecrackers [Submitter] [1 Build] 0 points 8 months ago

Haha, thanks! When that GPU comes in my life, things will certainly be well.

so annoy so float so fly (teehee)

+1 nice build, will be awesome with up2date gfx

Firecrackers [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

I will!

Zeus [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

What kind of games do you plan on playing? the 280x seems to be the sweet spot for gaming GPUs atm. +1 for a nice build!

Firecrackers [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

I looked and I mostly am going to be playing Battlefield 4, and maybe some other games. I saw that the r9 270 works GREAT with BF4, about 50 fps average:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMiUx5rbx6I

I like this because of the BF4 deal (comes with free BF4 in newegg), and if I ever need the extra boost, I could always Crossfire two of them (My PSU will work fine from some comments.)

Zeus [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

The 270 is great value for money.

GamingPC69 1 point 8 months ago

I hope this wasn't just for RS :p have fun gaming!

joshj2398 [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

+1 for playing OSRS.

DrFrostSickle 1 point 8 months ago

For your budget I would reccomend getting a 270x Hawk from MSI comes pre oced and is very ocable and only 20$ more than the normal variant.

HunterRollinger 1 point 8 months ago

i love it :D [its only 1,000,000,000,000 times better than my laptop... like all computers...]

JCanadian 1 point 5 months ago

+1 for build name, seriously tho, great build overall

dschutt84 [3 Builds] 0 points 8 months ago

Well it'll be hard to beat out ps2 with a Linux distro.

DannyVekslender [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

Nope.

Firecrackers [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

I like some parts of Linux, but I will be getting Windows 7.

dschutt84 [3 Builds] 1 point 8 months ago

Linux is great for a lot of things except gaming.

DannyVekslender [1 Build] 2 points 8 months ago

Well, I'm hoping that some day Linux will kill Windows, burn it's remains and spread it's ashes, and then we can both enjoy well made/fast OSes and gaming.

dschutt84 [3 Builds] 2 points 8 months ago

I'm sure we will be waiting for a while. It would be nice!!!

Read the description. I plan on getting a graphics card very soon. That card is just to get the computer running.

Firecrackers [Submitter] [1 Build] 3 points 8 months ago

Don't get the -1, I am going to be getting one soon.
