This is a build for a friend's wedding gift from his fiancée. I planned this a few months back and slowly picked up the parts. I honestly didn't realize I picked the exact same parts for the build that some reviewers also used in their builds... great minds I suppose? The RAM seems like an odd choice, but I had a single 8GB dimm NIB still from a previous promo and I had no idea what to do with it, so I just bought another single 8GB dimm and paired it. The PSU is also overkill I know, however the G2 from EVGA based on SuperFLOWER is a SUPERB PSU at it's price, and with all the extra wattage it will run cool and make use of the ECO mode (silent fan) more. I also delidded the CPU and used Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra between die and IHT, then applied MX4 for waterblock/pump to IHT.

I just found out that I will be holding on to it for a little while before it's gifted, so I plan on making new cables from scratch for the PSU 24pin, CPU, and VGA so they look a little better.

Build name is a star wars reference, right? Pretty cool build!

Correct and thanks!

Nice job with the mods. +1 Did you do a temp comparision from before and after delid?

nehmia [Submitter] [2 Builds] 1 point 7 months ago

Thanks! I did not... I knew the correct thing to do would be to do that... but I was impatient and just wanted to get it together. I know stock the Haswell runs hotter than Ivy/Sandy, so I assumed anything I did would be cooler be a fair amount. But I am going to respread the CLU and MX4 TIM to try for a better temp at load.

Nice build +1 Seeing enthusiast mini itx builds is always pretty cool. More pictures of the finished build would be nice though

This deserves way more upvotes. Good job on the cable management, and I think the recipients will love this gift. I love the sleeving on the cables as well, mainly because purple and black are my two favorite colors lol. Overall, I would give this build a 9.9/10. Only thing that would bump it up is if you gave it to me ;)

Cool gift idea, but may I ask what does delidded mean? and how does it benefit your CPU?

Actually it's not so much there is bad thermal paste, it's actually kinda good, it's the fact that there is a lot of room between the processor and the cap.

Also, the on-die voltage regulator module adds to the heat as well.

Thanks for that, I've seen people delid their CPU's before but never really understood why.

does the motherboard have bluetooth and WIFI ?

shawnshibu123 2 points 8 months ago

It has wifi, not bluetooth.

Delidded with clu and only 69c? Pretty crappy chip if you ask me.

nehmia [Submitter] [2 Builds] 1 point 7 months ago

Thank's for posting this! This is my first go at delidding and I was impatient and did not do a test before delidding so I had no original base temp. After looking around it seems a good temp to shoot for would be 55-65C at full load after delidding the 4670K. I will respread the CLU as well as the MX4 and hope for a better contact.

Can I just pay you to make those purple cables for me? lol

I feel like you should have went with a 4770k to go with the 780 Ti, and also maybe spent a little to get a WD Caviar Black 1tb, great for storage, and if he will be gaming on this (he better be) than he will need the extra storage for games.

PolishXlion [1 Build] 2 points 8 months ago

What is the point of a 4770k for gaming?

nehmia [Submitter] [2 Builds] 1 point 7 months ago

Thank you, there is no point to get the 4770k for gaming.

PolishXlion [1 Build] 1 point 7 months ago

You have a very nice build :). I don't agree with ThatsPoorlyDrawn comment about the HDD fully, since storage is personal I don't see the point suggesting it, I do agree though that it is a good drive just like the silent Seagate Barracuda. I personally use 250 GB of space for all my games so this SSd would be a bit small but that depends what games you play etc.
