PROJECT REDRUM

Description

PROJECT REDRUM was built for gaming, editing and some minor rendering side projects.

Since the ROG Swift PG278Q 27-inch WQHD G-Sync Gaming Monitor has been delayed again, I decided to buy an Asus PB298Q 29 inch Ultra-wide screen monitor for my video editing and rendering projects. this will serve its purpose until the ROG Swift becomes available. After that, this monitor will go to my other work station. So far, loving the PB298Q's crisp and deep color. The extra estate is very cool both in gaming and in work related stuffs.

Feel free to comment and ask questions.

What do you do for a living, sir?

Consoledestroyer 2 points 4 months ago

Anyone making six figures with no wife or kids will easily be able to afford this

ITneto 12 points 4 months ago

I have no wife or kids and I can't afford it! oh wait I am a teenager..

Consoledestroyer 6 points 4 months ago

Your also probably not earning a six figure salary, that's kind of a big one...

ITneto 2 points 4 months ago

Oh sorry, I didn't read that. Do you mean, annually?

Consoledestroyer 4 points 4 months ago

Yes , why do you make six figures semiannually or quarterly, or monthly?????

ITneto 3 points 4 months ago

Actually yes, weekly. Sorry I am not very familiar with that, we manage that info in other way here in Mexico. I guess it doesn't have be 6 figures, maybe if as you said no childs, no gf with a little bit of saving. it's possibru

CarterBond [1 Build] 44 points 7 months ago

The real question: Will it run minesweeper?

Zombieslaya980 19 points 5 months ago

most likely not

Vine_ST 4 points 2 months ago

I don't really play minesweeper; does this setup run Battletoads on an emulator?

Willwhitacre 2 points 2 months ago

minesweeper lmfao!

could u look over my build and tell me ho u think i did for the price that would be awsome man

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 6 points 9 months ago

your choice of parts for the budget is amazing :) cant say anything the others haven't said already. A desk or any elevating platform for your rig is the only thing missing. it'll choke on dust specially that your using carpet.

damn bro sexy build.. do you actually use all of this power?

[comment deleted]

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 6 points 9 months ago

Chosen most of the parts for future proofing the Rig. Since i dont have any plans on upgrading anytime soon,a few years from now im pretty sure all of this parts would just be regular or underpowered :)

ollieoxenfree [1 Build] 5 points 9 months ago

Nice build but definitely overkill. for 6 grand I would have bought a 5.0 mustang and still built a 4770k system. Blatant waste of money...That said, I love it. +1

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 0 points 9 months ago

Thanks :) wouldn't have a room in the garage for an extra car anyways :) Just future proofing the Rig as much as i can :)

Chazzy [1 Build] 5 points 9 months ago

you spend 6000 and no full custom loop...

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 3 points 9 months ago

I mentioned on the build log why i went with a close loop cooler. I wont be overclocking aggressively so its enough. less hassle.

Thanks :) lolx...my fiance would most likely do the same thing if she was my wife. :)

That would explain why you're future proofing

Aaaaaand you ruined it with the awful headset. In all honesty your build is great but that headset... just do yourself a favor and back into it with your car.

Stop avoiding the question What do you work as?

rossiosinc [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

Dat monitor though :P

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 0 points 9 months ago

I was ready to pull the trigger for an Asus PB278Q during the build phase but then i saw the ROG Swift PG278Q 27-inch WQHD G-Sync Gaming Monitor coming out on late March - early April on the CES coverage so decided to wait for that :)

Bad_Kitty13 1 point 8 months ago

Just a heads up that the ROG swift in all of its glory is still a TN panel...Overlord is working with Nvidia to get G-sync on their IPS 1440p Monitors and should be available in Q4 of this year. Sexy Build, +1 for the Bitfenix Cables nice touch.

GaldedRaw 1 point 8 months ago

Its a high quality TN panel though. Just like there are different types of IPS panels (6-bit/8-bit). That monitor is going to perform.

Thanks :)

zSyzygy [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

When that monitor comes in...this build will be perfection. How do you like those corsair fans? I was thinking about getting a few for myself.

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 0 points 9 months ago

Cant wait for it to be available :) I love the fans. the quiet ones are awesome. 8 of them running and you can barely hear them. they also look pretty nice. chose them over performance ones since i can adjust its speed anytime via the fan expert on the ai suite. :)

zSyzygy [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

When they're on silent, do they move much air? 38 CFM seems so low.

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 0 points 9 months ago

Yes they do :) you can always adjust them higher if you got a fan controller or via mobo like i do if you think its not enough. some of my office mates even switched from performance editions to quiet ones, since they end up slowing them down anyways due to noise. :)

zSyzygy [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

Okay thank you very much I'll give em a go!

Sounds like you are an Oracle DBA? They say you can never marry an Oracle man, because they only rollback...never commit ;)

The Oracle servers you deal with probably trump this build, quad Intel xeons with 128GB of RAM.

I wish you'd used white LEDs as that would accentuate the different colors more but, man, this thing is f#ck!ng AMAZING!

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 0 points 9 months ago

Thanks :) Yeah, mentioned on one of the comments that I'm gonna purchase some white LEDs as well for comparison :) loving the red ones but definitely wont mind switching to whites if its gonna look better :)

hitmaniac [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

Awesomest build ever. Not too fancy. Not too simple. When I was choosing the case for mine, I saw that Corsair case and told myself I would get once I get enough money. Feels like I am in a time machine watching my future build

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

Thanks. I love the case, the clean look and all the space to work with made the building process easy and more fun. :)

Salty365 1 point 9 months ago

This is an astonishingly amazing build. Also have you ran any benchmarks yet?

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

Thanks :) Haven't done any benchmarks yet due to my hectic working schedule. planning to do so as well as overclocking both CPU and the GPUs ones the time permits. hopefully a long weekend Holiday. :)

Salty365 1 point 9 months ago

Will be waiting back on the results

ABJ117 1 point 9 months ago

Where did you get those colored cable sleeves?

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

Those are BitFenix cable extensions. think i bought them on performance-pcs if i remember correctly :)

changerrs 1 point 9 months ago

amazing build.

Is it ironic that Miscellaneous, Taxes, Shipping and Handling Fees cost 1024?

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

Sad to say yes :( .. Taxes alone ate most of that share added up with the shipping and handling fees.. once you look into the receipts and add them all up.. its really shocking after they piled up like that. $68 on some of the parts as tax seems ok but total them out and it hits you hard specially if most of them aren't bought at the same time. :(

YodelingTerror 1 point 9 months ago

You know most people like me would see this build, and go, well stealing is always an option... :S

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

lolx :)

alextargaryen [2 Builds] 1 point 9 months ago

Wow! This is one of the best builds i've ever seen! Every part is selected to be TOP CLASS! I wish i could give it more than +1!

Only one question though. Why did you go for the 3x120mm on the front instead of 2x140mm(for example 2xAF140's)? Wouldn't it be a bit quieter(not a lot quieter but ok)?

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 2 points 9 months ago

Thanks :) Went with 3X 120mm SP fans rather than 3X 120mm AF fans or 2X 140mm AF fans for more airflow. Lots of threads and discussions shows that SP fans outperforms the AF fans in almost all scenarios except for unobstructed air passages like rear exhaust or side ventilation. this is due to the fact that the CFM rate of the airflow fans is almost cut in half when there's any obstruction, even in the likes of a mere dust filters. this was also tested by Linustechtips on one of his videos. In the Corsair Air 540 case, there is a magnetic filter aside from the front honeycomb grill mesh upfront so AF fans performance would drastically be less than SP fans :)

alextargaryen [2 Builds] 1 point 9 months ago

Thank you very much for the info! We learn a new thing every day! And again, excellent build! :)

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

Newbie1998 [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

Where did you purchase the Sleeved cables?

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

The sleeved extension cables were bought from performance-pcs and the individually sleeved actual cables are bought from Corsair.

Yevgeniy_Onegin [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

Very nice build. Can I just ask you, why did you get the Bit Fenix extentions if you already had Corsair Individually braided cables, vice a versa.

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

Thanks. Extensions are purely for aesthetics and looks so it will only get hooked on the components/parts on display like the video cards and the 24 pin and 8 pin cables for the motherboard. wanted a combination of both black and red cables in which you wont be able to get unless you sleeve the cables manually or know someone to do it for you. :)

Alonminatti [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

FINALLY! Someone else gets it!

drck44 1 point 8 months ago

I like your taste. I bought the same case and PSU. Haven't pulled the trigger on anything else yet. Let me know when you use up all that storage!

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks, loving the case :) in regards to storage, the 1TB SSD is almost full and im planning to get another one soon. i like my games all installed and is ready anytime i wanna play/replay them. not a big fan of deleting and reinstalling routine. also 1 of the 4tb is almost full after i transferred my massive iTunes library and the other one is halfway from all the saved projects. :)

Duke_countu 1 point 8 months ago

dat monitor do :0

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

It was mentioned on the description that it will be replaced once the ROG Swift PG278Q 27-inch WQHD G-Sync Gaming Monitor comes out on late March - early April

stellarfalls 1 point 8 months ago

man i have to say this is a impressive build not just the money side but the color scheme and placement of everything just fits so well i love it wish i had a higher budget so i could get sleeved cables and LEDS lol nice man :)

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks :)

winstonofwar [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

I thought the build was amazing until I saw the pics with the red LEDs and I was so disappointed...but then you changed it to white LEDs and it looks so much better! Definitely one of the sexiest builds I've seen on here!

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks :) .. i loved the Red LEDs until the night sets in... it was blinding and was very hard on the eyes. really loving the White ones, not too exaggerated and it highlights and pops out all the red and black accents of the build. way way better than the Red ones :)

winstonofwar [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

Exactly. What I don't like about colored LEDs is that they kind of mask the colors of all the components. If I was going to use colored LEDs, I might as well not bother with color coordinating the build.

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

Decided to go with Red ones at the beginning when i saw how subtle it was on one of NCIX pc builds (Turbine) on one of Linus videos. It turns out it was just getting overpowered by the set's spotlights and not as subtle as it seems (was really aiming for just the highlights and thought it would go well with the Red theme). definitely no colored LEDs for color schemed builds :)

Maroon 1 point 8 months ago

I heard you needed at least three GPUs to run some graphic heavy games like Farmville, or minesweeper :P. Now tthat I pointed that out, you deserve a +1 for this awesome beast.

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 2 points 8 months ago

Yeah looks like no Farmville and Minesweeper for me till i get a new Mobo to accommodate tri SLI and another GPU hehehe.. thanks :)

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

dan1229 [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

Hey there I was just wondering if you'd suggest the dust filter kit because I was gonna get it but it seems a bit expensive. Would you think I'd be bettter off just getting one for the PSU for like $10.00 on Amazon?

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

You could by the filters individually if your not using the rest of the filters :) technically you only want the non exhaust slots to be covered by filters (ex. the 2 hard drive bays at the buttom, PSU side vent, the grills behind the ssd cage and the front. the rest are optional. I bought the kit since i also replaced the front ones as well (the demciflex front filter is better than the stock in my opinion) and is using more than half of the kit.

alexvail 1 point 8 months ago

Thats what I call future proof funny because I'm typing this in on a $300 hp laptop that crashes when I try to play a game like league of legends. HAHAHA!!!!!

Phibz408 [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

Seriously one of the craziest things I have ever seen for a personal rig...

I would expect this as a promotional build to get some attention for a company or something.

With that said... I want it!

I really hope to someday make the kind of cash where I can buy a PC like this.

Also, get at least two more monitors along with your new one. You gotta put those cards to their full potential.

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

Still waiting for 2560x1440p ROG Swift PG278Q 27-inch WQHD G-Sync monitor to come out in the market and it uses a display port due to G-sync, with me running SLI, i only have 2 display ports and playing on 2 monitors is pretty weird. with the 2560x1440p ROG Swift PG278Q 27-inch WQHD G-Sync monitor running at 140hz and g-sync, ill be needing to push the frame rates as high as possible to take advantage of it so i think having 1 is just ok :) thanks

May I ask what your opinions are on the keyboard? The Corsair Vengeance K70. I'm in the works of my first build, and I'm keeping a primarily red color scheme. The only thing that I have against the K70 is the mechanical keys. For some reason, I prefer chiclet style keys. However, since it has Cherry MX Red switches, I think I wouldn't have a huge problem with it, considering noise is one of the major disadvantages in my opinion.

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 7 months ago

Im loving my K70s cherry reds. i don't think i can go back on using other keyboards aside from this mechs :) also the cherry reds just have enough tacks and aren't as clicky and noisy as the blues and browns so Im pretty sure you will love it as well :)

cusco [1 Build] 1 point 7 months ago

Where and how did you connect all the corsair fans? What is the difference on the 3 pin vs 4 pin fans? I'm doing the same build as you.

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 7 months ago

Fans are connected directly to the mother board via wire splitters. 4 pin fans are PWM and can be controlled via MoBo or by software.

Do you fly drones with this?

24 pin and 8 pin power extentions and PCIE extentions are all for aesthetics, looks, and to finish up the black and red color scheme. matched all cables which are showing in front to tie up everything.

Vorago [1 Build] 1 point 7 months ago

Thanks for posting so many pictures to go with your beautiful build! The 540 looks surprisingly well designed - I love that you can get three fans on the front, mount the HDDs on the bottom of the case, then tuck some SSDs and the PSU around the back. Brilliant! Corsair love all around too. (:

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 7 months ago

Thanks for checking out my build :) . I feel the same, i really liked how the 540 was designed and i really loved how it looks :). never had a bad experience with anything regarding Corsair so i always choose them even on my old builds :)

sergiu898989 1 point 7 months ago

very nice built! congrats!

I was wondering if a 280mm radiator with a push/pull config(4*140mm fans) will fit on the top of the case. It's only 40mm brighter and 2mm higher than the one you've used. Is there enough cleareance to the mobo, the top front fan and rear fan? I've been reading a lot of comments and some say it will fit, some that it will not.

Thx!

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 7 months ago

Thanks :) . I'm pretty sure a 280mm radiator (ea. Corsair H110) would fit on a NORMAL config. but push and pull might be a bit tight fit even if you were able to install it. currently on my set up (240mm push pull) i barely have room in between the bottom radiator fans and the mobo , so components you will use will be a big factor (example is what mobo, what brand of fans, etc). on the rear side/back exhaust fan, there wont be any issue because there still lot of room in between the radiator and the fan. hope this helps :)

sergiu898989 1 point 7 months ago

I will use the same mobo as you did...as for the fans and radiator I will go for the Corsair AF140(25mm height) and the Corsair H110 (29mm height), so the whole construction will be 79mm 'tall'. Your config is about 2mm shorter...have I got a chance to squeeze my config between the top of the case and the mobo?

I've heard that there should be a 80mm cleareance between the top of the case and all ROG motherboards, but I want to be sure before I buy my parts.

Once again, thank you:)

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 7 months ago

1mm allowance is very very tight if i may say.. maybe its possible if you install the 8 pin mobo power cable first and run it through the side. Not to mention, installing the radiator fan cables would be pretty painful as well as you may need special tools to grab or push the cables in between the very small space between the rad fans and mobo. anyway its really hard for me to say since i haven't used a 110 before. if you could option out to a smaller rad like the 240mm it would be great as well since theres not much significant difference in performance for the 2 close loop coolers (just a few degrees diff doesn't matter unless your going to OC aggressively) hope everything turns out ok for your build :)

tylerste85 [1 Build] 1 point 7 months ago

I love the case, my concern would be dust inside with that kind of air flow. Do you have anything to prevent that?

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 7 months ago

Mentioned it on my build log on the description :) , aside from the ones included in front , i bought a dust filter kit for Corsair Air 540 from Demciflex.:)

PCBuilder005 1 point 7 months ago

I can only say one thing... Damn! I very much hope I can build a rig similar to this when I save up enough. Love the Corsair Air 540 ATX, its pretty well organized and well thought up. If only there was a subscribe button on this site!

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 7 months ago

Thanks :) yeah, up until now, I still haven't seen any case which draws me like what the 540 did when i first saw it :)

Sir,you need more monitors.

Yevonizer [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 7 months ago

As mentioned on the other comment, still waiting for 2560x1440p ROG Swift PG278Q 27-inch WQHD G-Sync monitor to come out in the market and it uses a display port due to G-sync, with me running SLI, i only have 2 display ports and playing on 2 monitors is pretty weird. with the 2560x1440p ROG Swift PG278Q 27-inch WQHD G-Sync monitor running at 140hz and g-sync, ill be needing to push the frame rates as high as possible to take advantage of it so i think having 1 is just ok :) thanks

I've gotta tell you...your build was one of my inspirations to build the PC that I have now completed. My build log will be going up pretty soon on this site.

how's the new monitor working out?

Excellent build and build log...

If possible can you please outline which tools/software you used for stress testing the components and which tools/software used for benchmarking and temperature monitoring.

I'm trying to stress test, monitor temperature and benchmark my new build.

thanks...

paullikethesaint 1 point 5 months ago

Do have all this storage set up in a raid configuration? That's a lot of storage for a home PC but I assuming if you're doing video editing you must need a lot for that.

RedXTheBest 1 point 5 months ago

Great solid build! Definitely future proofed! I wish I could have a PC as good as this but unfortunately, I'm just trying to save for my $1700 build. Have you ever thought about streaming with this? It would godly for streaming.

IronBoot27 1 point 5 months ago

Well... now at least you can play minecraft at a solid 30,000 fps.

Nice build. I like it so much I am building my own with only a few slight mods.

How does it perform on video editing? I plan to run Adobe creative suite on mine.

Soram [1 Build] 1 point 3 months ago

So, that is quite an insane build. My question, how loud is it? A Corsair cube, with eight or so fans, two graphic cards, all right next to you?

That is one lovely machine! You say that's for editing!?. I have a question im hoping you have experience with gpu's. Two 780's or one 780ti? I can get two 780's for little over the price of the ti in the UK, and its strictly 3d editing and rendering, no gaming what so ever :)

Hey, I know I'm late to the party but I'm considering a build where the Air 540 is on my desk. What is the noise like? I don't want to end up with a jet engine beside my ear :p

I was looking to build something very similar with a lot of the same parts. How is everything working for you? are there any things you would change if you did it again?

rpeat [1 Build] 1 point 14 days ago

Absolutely love the build sir/ma'am. I plan on using this system as somewhat a of a visual reference to what I plan on doing. A few things are going to be changed to accommodate my choices. I'm stealing those sleeved connectors for my build. Definitely going to be doing the quad sp120's on the h100i for a sick push/pull config. Using the H440, most likely going to be doing MSI mobo and gpu instead of Asus gpu and mobo. My current build didn't really have a color scheme to it, as I didn't care about such things before the build. After the build I want EVERYTHING to be red/black. I have my computer sold for 2 grand and have already started ordering parts for my next system. Got the case and some other things on the way today, haven't decided on a name yet either.
