Description

notes:

1) just using basic OC during first few days of ownership. basic = using MSI's OC Genie 2 (x42) 2) ssd OS drive + wd 500gb raptors in raid-0 = 1TB storage bliss 3) cpu cooler h110i. reports of issues with the software, so i've yet to install it 4) using 650d fan controller for front intake and rear exhaust

more notes:

1) i really like the 650d case. if I had one wish, a little more room on the cable management side 2) i like the h100i. didn't want a huge air cpu cooler taking over the motherboard 3) really really like the msi motherboard. the led's are amazing. no need to juice things up w/ led fans :) 4) corsair vengeance ram is working as intended. have yet to play around w/ OC'ing it. 5) the galaxy 670 owns. when i'm told its getting long in the tooth, i'll get another. more cool led's on the card (see #3) 6) this is my first ssd. only drawback is i no longer get to see the win graphic complete during boot (loads win to fast:) 7) using windows raid 0 for the raptors (not motherboard "fake" raid). more info: http://kmwoley.com/blog/?p=429

Nice and clean. Smart choices, too.

As much as I love my 650D I've gotta agree with you on the cable space -- even an extra quarter inch over there would've helped a lot. You did a much nicer job than I did spacing everything out though -- if you peep my build you'll see I had a lot more clumps. Barely got that side panel back on :)

Good build. Upvote!

holy crud.. Thats one of the best 650d builds I've ever seen. the red is Bad@zz :) very very nice.

I almost went with the Sabertooth z77 myself. I had it listed for the longest time but ended up going w/ MSI.

TY :D

It's a pretty sick board. No complaints so far . . . I was looking at a couple EVGAs as well but the look of the thermal armor and extended warranty sold me on it. Hopefully Asus will stand behind it if anything ever goes wrong, though :0

The cable management is superb!

thank you sir! funny thing is, that took me longer than taking all the parts out of the box and building the system :) but it was fun.. and worth it.

Good job! I see usb cables in the cable management area, what are they?

xbit [Submitter] [2 Builds] 1 point 13 months ago

the 650d came out when the usb 3.0 standard was still being created. So in short the 650d just gave two usb 3 plugs for the front of the case. but with an adapter you can now plug it into the mobo. http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?p=581727

Javanode [1 Build] 1 point 13 months ago

oh I understand. Is the adapter expensive? the case i'm looking to buy has a regular usb 3.0 plug

xbit [Submitter] [2 Builds] 1 point 13 months ago

not at all.. it was like $6 on ebay :)

Impressed with the clean layout and some of the best cable management I have seen in a while. Bravo!

Seeing the clean look you have achieved, I wish I had bought the 650d now, instead of settling for the 500r.

thank you Divdor! yes, I really enjoy the 650d. I just wish they would bevel out the cable management side just a little as it was not easy. I really like the 500r though, its a great looking case. in fact, I like most all the corsair cases but the 500r with its two from fans and beveled sides is amazing.

Great build. Clean and powerful. Those Corsair cases look so awesome. Props on using Velcro cable wraps, did the same thing and it helps make the cable management look great. Lol, my Win 7 loads before the graphics ends too, thought it crashed the first time it happened.

Overall, nice job! Not sure what the Galaxy GPUs are like but your build seems to have your money put in the right places. You didn't skimp on the PSU, you've got some blazing fast drives, and you got a pretty nice motherboard. Oh and the cables are clean!

Only issue I have with this build is the 16GB RAM over 8GB and some savings; however, it's not a huge deal since you've got all your other gear sorted out well.

Nice job! :)

thank you :) when with 16 just due to the fact egghead had a deal going on, buy the msi motherboard get 8 gig free. that's not the reason why i went with msi, but i just got lucky.
